In Mortal Kombat 1, players have the opportunity to unlock and equip cosmetic items known as announcer voices. These items modify the narrator's voice in the game once they are acquired. To alter the announcer's voice, specific objectives must be completed in both Story Mode and Invasion. However, players have expressed curiosity about the process of changing the announcer's voice, as only the default voice from previous games seems to be accessible. This guide offers a brief explanation of how to change the announcer's voice in MK1 and provides clarification on the steps necessary to unlock new voices.
Announcer Voice Settings
To alter the announcer's voice in Mortal Kombat 1, navigate to Settings > Video & Audio > and toggle the voice located in the Audio Setup tab. Initially, the narrator from previous MK games assumes the role of the announcer. However, players can modify this once they unlock fresh presenters.
How to Unlock New Announcer Voices
Johnny Cage sets himself apart from other announcers by giving Kombatants unique nicknames. In the case of Kitana, he affectionately refers to her as "Mini Mileena," "Fancy Face," and even "Mom's Favorite."
New announcer voices in Mortal Kombat 1 can be obtained by progressing in Story and Invasion Modes. To acquire the first voice, players need to complete the Invasion Mode tutorials. The second voice is rewarded upon successfully defeating chapter 7 of the story, while the final voice becomes available as a perk upon reaching level 50.
In total, there are four announcers in MK1: Liu Kang, Johnny Cage, Geras, and Shang Tsung. Here’s how to unlock each.
Announcer Voice | How to Get |
Liu Kang | Complete Chapter 7 in Story Mode |
Johnny Cage | Beat the Klassic Actor Johnny Cage in Invasion |
Geras | Reach Player Level 50 |
Shang Tsung | Purchase from the in-game Shop |
Shang Tsung's voice is occasionally available in the Premium Items section of the shop. However, it may not be there when players visit the shop, as it’s a time-limited offer.
Mortal Kombat 1 Announcer Voice Actors
While the default announcer is Jamieson Price, who has been announcing Kombatants since Mortal Kombat 9, a talented cast of voice actors has joined the team for the new announcers. Shang Tsung is voiced by Alan Lee, Liu Kang by Matthew Yang King, Johnny Cage by Andrew Bowen, and Geras by Phil LaMarr.
Although Jean-Claude Van Damme is an alternate Johnny Cage voice, he is not an announcer in Mortal Kombat 1.
Mortal Kombat 1 is available now for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch.
