The focus of Genshin Impact's 3.8 update is different from its previous 3.7 update. While 3.7 saw the enhancement of the Genius Invokation TCG with new playable and action cards, 3.8 focuses on various aspects of gameplay. One of the updates includes the introduction of Veluriyam Mirage, a limited-time location that players can explore as part of the annual summer flagship event. In addition to this, new TCG cards are also being introduced as the Sumeru Arc concludes. Among the new cards are Yanfei, Candace, and Kaedehara Kazuha. These new cards have been well-received by the community. They not only synergize well with existing characters but also bring new elements that could potentially shift the meta. Yanfei's card, in particular, has caught the attention of players, much like her popularity within the Genshin Impact gameplay. Players are enjoying utilizing this 4-star character to her fullest potential, which can rival that of some 5-star characters. Yanfei's TCG kit bears similarities to Klee, another available Pyro catalyst in the TCG, as both her Elemental Burst and Elemental Skill offer additional benefits to Charged Attacks.
Yanfei Card & Skills
To obtain Yanfei Character and Talent cards, players can invite Yanfei to a match at Cat's Tail using a Match Invitation Letter. Winning this match will reward players with Yanfei's character card, and there are no level requirements to worry about. Additionally, players can obtain Yanfei's talent card by completing additional objectives. If players are interested in collecting Match Invitation Letters for their favorite characters, the Forge Realm's Temper game mode offers a great opportunity. By participating in this mode and earning currency, players can acquire enough Match Invitation Letters to unlock more character cards and expand their deck options.

Yanfei's Talent Card: Right of Final Interpretation
Yanfei's Talent Card sets itself apart from others in the game by its unique design. While most characters have talent cards associated with their Elemental Burst or Skill, Yanfei's card is specifically linked to her normal attack. However, its practicality can be seen as dependent on the situation. Players must carefully manage their dice rolls to ensure the next attack is a charged attack and activate it when the enemy's HP is below 6. This effect grants Yanfei an additional damage bonus, making it possible for her to defeat an enemy in one shot if their HP is already relatively low. Nonetheless, it is not obligatory to utilize this card. Players are given the freedom to prioritize the talent cards of other team members or choose alternative action cards that may bring greater value to the team.
Best Yanfei Decks
Yanfei, a DPS character, thrives when teamed up with members who can enhance elemental reactions with her Pyro application and provide healing or defensive utility. The perfect team members for Yanfei are those who can summon creatures to continue applying elemental effects, allowing Yanfei to stay active for longer periods. To maximize Yanfei's potential, players should first activate her skill, followed by her normal attack as a charged attack, and then her Burst. After her Burst, Yanfei can focus on normal attacks until the Scarlet Seal effect dissipates.
Yanfei + Kokomi + Venti
Yanfei's consistent use of Pyro makes her skillful in enabling Vaporize reactions. Adding a character like Kokomi to the team proves to be highly advantageous because she not only acts as a healer but can also summon and apply Hydro at the end of each turn, creating ideal conditions for Yanfei. Furthermore, as a Catalyst character, Kokomi ensures a continuous application of Hydro, even when her Elemental Skill is not necessary.
Moreover, Venti's ability to create Swirl effects proves to be extremely beneficial. Swirl not only adds crowd control by forcing opponents to switch characters, disrupting their combos, but it also spreads elemental effects among multiple enemies. By using Venti's Swirl after Kokomi applies Hydro, it sets the stage for Yanfei to deal significant damage, regardless of the active character. In a challenging situation with low HP, Venti can also create a Swirl effect with Pyro instead. This allows Kokomi to unleash higher damage output and heal through normal attacks after using her Burst ability. This strategic adjustment has the potential to turn the tides of battle. Players who do not require a healer character can also choose Mona instead of Kokomi.
Yanfei + Yae Miko + Beidou
When Klee and Beidou's cards were released together, they formed a powerful combination, especially when paired with a character like Fischl, who helped with additional Electro application. This team composition can also achieve impressive results by swapping out Fischl for Yae Miko. Yae Miko not only boosts the team's damage potential with her stronger attacks, but also works with Beidou to provide enough Electro application for Yanfei to take advantage of the Overload reaction. Similar to Swirl, Overload also gives the team the ability to control crowds and potentially disrupt opponent's combos.
To maximize this setup, players should focus on activating Beidou's Burst as quickly as possible and then switch to Yae Miko to use her summon. This allows players to keep Yanfei as the active character for a longer period until Beidou's effect fades away. In addition, Beidou can also contribute defensive abilities to the team composition, further enhancing its overall effectiveness.
Yanfei + Bennett + Xingqiu
Players have the choice to explore a different team composition for Vaporize, apart from the first example. Instead of relying on summons and swirling, players can now take advantage of the coordinated attacks between Xingqiu and Yanfei. This synergy enables Yanfei to unleash significant damage with each of her attacks. Although this team composition may lack crowd control abilities, it makes up for it with increased versatility and the potential for higher DPS output in each round.
Xingqiu plays a critical role in boosting Yanfei's Normal Attack damage, while Bennett provides additional flexibility in situations where charge attack dice management may not be favorable. In these cases, players can consider enhancing Yanfei's skill damage instead, as an alternative option. To effectively set up the field, players should activate Xingqiu's Elemental Burst first, then switch to Bennett to utilize his Elemental Skill and activate his Burst. This sequence allows the team to unleash Vaporize damage and then switch to Yanfei, resulting in a faster-paced match. Once both Xingqiu and Bennett's bursts are active, Yanfei can confidently use her Elemental Skill, followed by devastating normal (charged) attacks to deal substantial blows to the opponents.
Recommended Action Cards
Yanfei team compositions offer a significant advantage as she can effectively utilize top-rated cards in the TCG. Additionally, her flexibility allows for the incorporation of equipment cards since her combo rotations do not depend on specific cards like quick swap. This enables players to allocate space in their deck for these cards. However, it is important to manage dice effectively since Yanfei's damage output primarily relies on her Charged attacks. To optimize results, players should consider cards that generate dice or modify dice numbers to maintain an even count. Timmie and resonance cards (Pyro or Electro, depending on the team compositions chosen earlier) are valuable in this regard. Varanara cards can also help maintain a desirable number of dice each round, allowing Yanfei to unleash multiple attacks.
Furthermore, although Yanfei's deck doesn't explicitly require defensive cards due to their inherent defensive mechanics, players can still benefit from including cards that provide healing or reduce damage taken in dire situations. Cards like "Leave it to Me" or "Changing Shifts" are valuable in the early turns for setting up the field. These cards also do not consume any dice, providing greater flexibility in the deck.
Genshin Impact is now available on Mobile, PC, PS4, and PS5. A Switch version is in development.
