Engaging in battle despite being one hit away from death is an uncommon strategy in Baldur's Gate 3, but it can surprisingly yield effective results if executed correctly. The Blooded Greataxe, a magical weapon designed for the most daring of masochists, enables players to employ this daring tactic.
Acquiring this weapon in Baldur's Gate 3 doesn't require much effort, but it is easily overlooked, especially by those who have already obtained some of the game's more potent weapons. Here's where to locate this two-handed axe and some advice on obtaining it as early as possible.
Baldur's Gate 3: Blooded Greataxe Location
The Blooded Greataxe can be purchased from Dammon, the Tieflling blacksmith located in the Emerald Grove. Its price may vary from session to session, but typically averages around 700 gold. However, it's advisable to prioritize spending that amount on essential items such as healing items, throwable items, arrows, and camp supplies. Between the Druids' grove and the Goblin camp to the west, there are plenty of items to collect and sell. Therefore, it would be wise to hold off on purchasing the Blooded Greataxe for now.
Once players successfully eliminate the goblins and ensure the safety of the refugees, Dammon and the other Tieflings will leave the grove. Consequently, players will no longer have the opportunity to purchase the Blooded Greataxe from Dammon until a later point in the game when they encounter him again.
Alternatively, players can also find the Blooded Greataxe at the Goblin Camp by visiting the Shattered Sanctum. To the west of True Soul Gut's branding altar, players can approach a halfling named Roah Moonglow. She will also offer the Blooded Greataxe for a similar price, which means players will still need to acquire the required funds before progressing to the Underdark or the Mountain Pass.
If players successfully rescue Halsin and defeat the goblins in the sanctum, there is a chance that Roah and her crew, who are involved in an illegal trading operation, will attack the party as well. In the event that the players end up killing Roah, they can loot the Blooded Greataxe from her remains.
The Blooded Greataxe inflicts 1d12 Slashing damage, with an additional 1d4 damage if the wielder's health is below 50%. This is comparable to the Everburn Blade in terms of overall damage output, but the latter inflicts extra Fire damage without requiring any specific conditions to be met. However, the Blooded Greataxe only requires a single dice roll, allowing players to achieve maximum damage with just one successful roll, as opposed to needing two.
Baldur's Gate 3 is available now on PC with a PS5 version coming soon.
