Simu Liu, who is set to join the vibrant world of Mattel, has an interesting take on the concept of a Barbie Ken and Shang-Chi toy collaboration. In the upcoming adaptation of the famous doll, Liu will play one of the different versions of Barbie's boyfriend Ken, alongside Ryan Gosling, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Scott Evans, Ncuti Gatwa, and John Cena, who will portray a mermaid rendition of the character. The movie revolves around Margot Robbie and Gosling's Ken exploring the real world in search of the true meaning of life and happiness.
With the film's release just around the corner, Simu Liu recently expressed his excitement on Twitter about a Barbie movie pop-up at one of the remaining Toys "R" Us stores. One of his fellow Ken actors even shared his playful ideas for crossovers between their toy versions and their Marvel Cinematic Universe characters, suggesting anything from teaming up to fight against Thanos to a romantic moment between the two. Take a look at Liu's amusing post below:
How Barbie Continues Liu's Rise To Stardom
Liu gained initial recognition for his role in the Canadian sitcom Kim's Convenience Store, but it was his lead performance in the Marvel film Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings that truly propelled him to international fame. Since then, Liu's involvement in independent projects such as Women is Losers and Simulant has garnered significant attention. He has also secured a number of high-profile projects moving forward, including a sequel to Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and an episode of the animated series Star Wars: Visions in collaboration with Disney. Liu's portrayal of Ken in the upcoming film Barbie has been highly anticipated, with his hints about the movie's wild nature, including musical numbers and his own experiences undergoing painful waxing for the role.
The sequel of Barbie and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is not the final time we'll see Liu on screen. In fact, he has already acted in the adventure film Arthur the King, led by Mark Wahlberg, the Netflix sci-fi thriller Atlas, where he stars alongside Jennifer Lopez from The Mother, and he is also reuniting with Awkwafina, his co-star from Shang-Chi, for the action-comedy Grand Theft Lotto, which started filming in March. However, the status of this movie is uncertain due to the ongoing WGA writers strike.
