Maude Apatow holds a special place in her heart for her late Euphoria costar Angus Cloud, with whom she frequently shared scenes. Following his death, Apatow took to Instagram on Wednesday, August 2 to express her admiration for Cloud. Alongside a collection of photos featuring the actor, Apatow shared, "Angus was truly the funniest person. I always looked forward to working with him because I knew it would be an amazing day filled with laughter. He had a kindness that radiated and brought joy to those around him. He was simply the best. Words cannot fully capture his incredible spirit. My heart is shattered."
In her post, she expressed her heartfelt appreciation for the opportunity to know and collaborate with Cloud, stating that it brought immense happiness and blessings into her life. She emphasized that her love for him would be everlasting.
On Monday, July 31, it was announced that Cloud, who had recently attended his father's funeral in Ireland, passed away a week later. The 25-year-old actor's father, Conor Hickey, had sadly succumbed to a brief illness in May.
“It is with profound sadness that we bid farewell to an extraordinary individual today. Angus, an artist, a dear friend, a cherished sibling, and a beloved son, held a special place in all our hearts,” read the heartfelt statement released by Cloud’s family. “In the wake of laying his father to rest just last week, Angus grappled intensely with the weight of this loss. Our solace lies in the knowledge that Angus has now been rejoined with his father, his closest confidante and dearest companion.”

Cloud's family mentioned that Angus was transparent about his struggles with mental health before he passed away. They expressed their desire for his death to serve as a reminder to others that they are not alone and should not face this battle silently.
Subsequently, we verified that Cloud's mother contacted 911 in Oakland, California, on the day of his demise and reported a potential drug overdose. Upon the arrival of the police at the location, Cloud was found without a pulse, and he was declared deceased.
Cloud gained recognition for his portrayal of Fezco "Fez," a drug dealer, on HBO's Euphoria from 2019 to 2022. Throughout season 2, fans became invested in the romantic connection between Fez and Lexi (Apatow) after their encounter at the New Year's Eve party that marked the start of the new episodes.
However, the season 2 finale left viewers yearning for more as Fez was apprehended by the police and consequently missed out on attending Lexi's school play. Before the unfortunate incident, Fez had prepared a bouquet of flowers, neatly pressed his shirt, and even crafted a heartfelt letter for Lexi. Unfortunately, his plans were disrupted when a shooting occurred at his residence, an event he miraculously survived.
Fez did not attend the play, but in February 2022, Cloud expressed to Variety his belief that Lexi would ultimately forgive him. Additionally, he disclosed that the note from his character served as a congratulations to Lexi and indicated their progression to the next stage.
In the same month, Apatow enthusiastically shared with Entertainment Weekly the joy he experienced while working alongside Cloud in season 2.
"I absolutely adore working with Angus. He is an incredible actor, and our collaborations are always filled with pure enjoyment. Honestly, for my own selfish reasons, I hope we have the opportunity to continue sharing scenes together because it is just so much fun. He truly is an exceptional partner," she expressed. "His presence and immense talent never cease to amaze me, and I genuinely cherish every moment working alongside him. I would absolutely love to continue our collaboration."
Cloud shared a similar sentiment about working with Apatow, stating in an interview with Complex in January 2022, "Working with Maude is an absolute delight — she is the epitome of excellence. Every time we have the chance to collaborate, it is an absolute blast. She has a natural gift for humor that constantly has me laughing."
He added: “You gotta feel safe and comfortable to sort of open up. I always feel like that around her, so it’s not too difficult.”
