In the storyline, Fike and Schafer's characters become entangled in a complicated love triangle with Zendaya's character. Throughout the second season, Jules initially experiences jealousy towards Elliot and Rue before ultimately getting involved with the newcomer herself.
Fike officially announced his separation from Schafer in July 2023, emphasizing that he had no problems collaborating with his former partner on season 3 of Euphoria.
"I have a more favorable rapport with everyone. Well, mostly everyone," he shared with Zane Lowe during an Apple Music interview. "I believe it will be alright. We are all mature adults, to some extent. I'm making an effort."

As they departed a restaurant in West Hollywood, the pair were captured in a photograph, hand in hand. In a subsequent month, the songwriter turned to social media to unveil a video featuring Schafer during her guest appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!.

The couple made their first appearance on the red carpet at the Vanity Fair afterparty for the 2022 Oscars following the conclusion of Euphoria season 2 on HBO Max. They were accompanied by their fellow cast members, which included Zendaya, Barbie Ferreira, Sydney Sweeney, Maude Apatow, and Angus Cloud.

Fike made his first public comments about Schafer, calling her his girlfriend, in the June/July 2022 issue of GQ.
"During those moments, the strength of your bond with someone intensifies because you both let yourselves be completely vulnerable, which typically takes quite a while," shared the singer, discussing how the pair connected while working on the HBO set. "Some individuals fall in love months or even years after meeting. However, with us, there was an immediate attraction that accelerated our connection. We genuinely got to know each other in such a short span of time."
Fike also expressed his deep affection for Schafer, stating that he is "truly and deeply in love" with her, and despite their hectic professional lives, he makes every effort to visit her as frequently as possible.
