Dominic Fike, the star of Euphoria, opens up about his battle with drug addiction during his time on the show, and how it almost led to his dismissal. Fike joined the cast of Euphoria for its second season, playing the role of Elliot, a friend of Rue's and also a drug addict. In a recent interview with Apple Music, Fike shares the difficulties he faced with his addiction during his time on Euphoria, which almost resulted in his departure from the show.
Fike acknowledges that he was under the influence while filming, and Levinson enlisted a sober coach to support him during this period. However, Fike stated that the intervention was ineffective. Read below for Fike's account of his experience on set:
As a former drug addict, it was challenging for me to join a production focused on drugs.
: I was extremely intoxicated for a significant portion of the show, which resulted in negative consequences. I faced reprimands for my behavior and came close to being expelled from the show. The producers were emphatic about the fact that such actions were unacceptable.
What To Expect From Elliot In Euphoria Season 3
In season 2 of Euphoria, Rue found herself deeply immersed in her addiction, putting herself at great risk and endangering her life in order to obtain drugs. Despite her attempts to convince her family and friends that she was clean, Elliot was aware of her secret. From the beginning, Rue and Elliot had a tumultuous relationship, as they both enabled each other's addictions. However, Rue had kept the severity of her addiction hidden from Elliot, as he remained unaware of her past overdose.
Furthermore, Elliot became a source of conflict between Rue and Jules, as Jules and Rue began dating. Despite initially accepting him as a part of their relationship, Elliot ultimately betrayed Rue by exposing her relapse to Jules. However, towards the end, Rue acknowledges that she alone is responsible for her actions, leading to a reconciliation between her and Elliot. Despite this, they both agree it is best for them not to remain friends, which potentially sets the stage for a different role for Elliot in season 3.
The timing of the next season's beginning is uncertain, but there is a possibility for Euphoria to feature a 5-year leap, taking Rue and Elliot beyond their high school years and potentially reuniting them. However, Fike has hinted that Levinson had offered to write out Elliot's character if he desired to depart from the show. Considering Levinson's track record of eliminating beloved characters, Elliot may not have a favorable outcome in Euphoria.
