The campaign of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, released last year, introduced new characters to the franchise, alongside familiar ones such as Soap, Ghost, and Captain Price. In Season 3, Valeria Garza, the leader of the Las Almas Cartel, and Alejandro Vargas from the Mexican Special Forces, popular characters from the campaign, joined the ranks of Warzone and multiplayer operators. Valeria's El Sin Nombre skin was the highly coveted reward at level 100 of the battle pass. The season continued the story from the campaign, following Valeria as she managed to escape Mexican authorities.

Call of Duty recently unveiled two teaser images on Twitter for Season 5, as Season 4 draws to a close. The second image showcases three new characters who will likely be added to the existing roster of operators. While two of these characters are fresh faces, one of them will be instantly recognizable to those who have played Modern Warfare 2's campaign: Phillip Graves. Previously aligned with Task Force 141, Graves served as the CEO of Shadow Company before ultimately betraying them as a loyal follower of antagonist General Shepherd.

Considering that Phillip Graves met his demise in a late-campaign boss battle, it raises curiosity to see whether his inclusion in Season 5 will simply be as a new operator or if the campaign's storyline will be revisited, akin to Valeria's escape in Season 3. Given that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare in 2019 brought back protagonist Alex Keller after seemingly perishing in an explosion, introducing a prosthetic leg as part of a post-launch season, it would not be unexpected to witness a resurrection story for Graves.
