The highly-anticipated Season 4 of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has been revealed by Activision, and it promises to impress with six brand new multiplayer maps available upon launch. Additionally, players can expect a surprise mid-season release of another thrilling multiplayer area, adding even more excitement to one of the most beloved titles in the Call of Duty series.
Activision has fully embraced the games-as-a-service model with Modern Warfare 2, offering battle passes, unique events, and constant updates since its release in October 2022. With an unwavering commitment to keeping fans engaged and satisfied, the community eagerly awaited the reveal of Season 4, particularly in regards to its multiplayer modes.
Six brand new multiplayer maps will be available to play on launch day for CoD: Modern Warfare 2 Season 4, which is set to release on June 14. These maps include Showdown, Kunstenaar District, Mercado, Penthouse, Mawizeh Marsh, and Ahkdar Village. The announcement also teased a seventh map that will be released during the mid-season, though no further details have been shared at this time.
The upcoming expansion for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 boasts a variety of highly unique maps, each with their own distinct features and playstyles. Showdown is a reimagining of a fan-favorite CoD 4: Modern Warfare map, heavily focused on urban environments. In contrast, the Mawizeh Marshlands offers players a sprawling swamp to navigate, complete with vehicular combat opportunities. For a more concentrated experience, players can visit the Penthouse - a small but intense area located on a Chicago rooftop, featuring a pool, outdoor fire pit, and cramped interiors. The Mercado, on the other hand, is a larger map with several levels and verticality, allowing for intense battles inside a covered structure. In addition to the new maps, players can also look forward to four new armaments.
The competitive scene in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is thriving, as evidenced by the recent shutdown of cheat provider Mobius. Activision's cease and desist letter effectively put an end to the issue, demonstrating the company's commitment to keeping the game's competitive scene fair and clean. Despite ongoing efforts to prevent cheating through anti-cheat updates, real-world action was necessary to ensure a level playing field for all.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
