Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Ahsoka
Summary
Natalie Portman could potentially portray Abeloth, a prominent antagonist from the Legends in her comeback to the Star Wars universe. Abeloth, a powerful entity embodying chaos and disarray, possesses the capability to assume various shapes and identities, all while maintaining a connection to the Mortis deities.
In this chilling theory, the potential interactions between Abeloth and Anakin's Force ghost, as well as Ahsoka and the Skywalker twins, are explored. It speculates on the possibility of the Force being embodied as Padmé's face, offering a dark twist to the story.
Natalie Portman portrayed the character of Padmé Amidala in the Star Wars franchise from 1999 to 2005. Padmé, initially the Queen of Naboo, later became the senatorial representative of the planet in the Galactic Republic. In secrecy, she married Anakin Skywalker, a Jedi Knight who was later corrupted and transformed into Darth Vader, the infamous Sith Lord. Tragically, Anakin unintentionally caused Padmé's demise, leading to her death in Revenge of the Sith. However, there remains a possibility for a darker version of Padmé to emerge as a new villain in the Star Wars universe.
Lucasfilm Brought Back Ewan McGregor & Hayden Christensen... Why Not Natalie Portman?
In recent Star Wars projects, both Anakin Skywalker, portrayed by Christensen, and Obi-Wan Kenobi, played by McGregor, have made new appearances in the Star Wars universe. Kenobi has his own series that takes place 10 years after Revenge of the Sith. In this series, he embarks on a crucial mission to rescue young Princess Leia, while also coming to terms with Darth Vader, who was once Anakin Skywalker. For a long time, Kenobi believed he had killed Anakin and blamed himself for his fall to the dark side. Throughout the events of Obi-Wan Kenobi, Kenobi encounters Vader twice. Vader himself admits to being responsible for "killing Anakin Skywalker" and refuses to be seen as Kenobi's failure.
In addition to reprising their roles in Obi-Wan Kenobi, both Christensen and Obi-Wan also appeared in Ahsoka, with Rosario Dawson portraying Anakin's apprentice. Anakin's spirit connects with Ahsoka through a crucial Force vision, helping her find her path as a Jedi once again. Skywalker is also featured in holo-recordings that he had made for Ahsoka during the Clone Wars. Furthermore, his Force ghost appears at the end of the series, which is set in the New Republic era.
How Star Wars Could Bring Back Natalie Portman As A Villain
: Although McGregor and Christensen have played significant roles in recent Star Wars projects, it would be truly exhilarating if Natalie Portman also graced the galaxy once again. However, the prospect is a bit more intricate considering that Padmé's journey is essentially confined to the events of the prequels themselves, with much of her escapades being recounted in the Clone Wars animated series. Nonetheless, there have been suggestions that Padmé could potentially make a haunting comeback.According to an online source, there have been suggestions that Natalie Portman's return to Star Wars might involve the character Abeloth. Abeloth is a notable villain from the Legends series, and it's possible that Ahsoka played a role in bringing her back to the official canon. In the story of Ahsoka, a Dark Jedi mercenary named Baylan Skoll discovered enormous statues of the celestial Force gods of Mortis on the extragalactic planet known as Peridea. This discovery suggests a connection between the two worlds, potentially making them one and the same. However, it is also worth considering that Peridea may have been the original home of the Force gods before Mortis, as described in the Legends lore.
In Legends, the Father, Son, and Daughter resided alongside the Mother, an unnamed mortal woman who became part of their family. However, fearing the prospect of aging and dying without her immortal loved ones, she succumbed to forbidden power, transforming herself into Abeloth, a Force entity characterized by chaos and entropy. With the demise of the three Mortis gods during the Clone Wars, the power that Baylan sensed and even frightened the Nightsisters could potentially be the presence of Abeloth herself.
Abeloth, having been captured by the Mortis gods, might have had her prison weakened upon their deaths, similar to what happened in Legends. Consequently, there is a possibility that Baylan Skoll could canonically release Abeloth in the future. In light of this, some suggest that Portman could portray Abeloth, as the character has the ability to take on various forms, much like the Son when he appeared as Anakin's mother in The Clone Wars. Although the likelihood is admittedly low, it would be a chilling and unsettling way to reintroduce Portman, with the dark Force entity using Padmé's likeness to manipulate and corrupt.
Natalie Portman's Abeloth Return Would Be The Darkest Twist Imaginable
Regardless of its likelihood, there lies a potentially sinister aspect to the notion of Abeloth taking on Padmé's form if she were to be unleashed upon the New Republic era, similar to what occurred in Legends. One can only imagine the profound impact Abeloth could have on both Anakin's Force ghost and Ahsoka herself. Moreover, Luke and Leia never had the opportunity to know their mother, as Padmé tragically passed away shortly after giving birth to the Skywalker twins. Luke, in particular, would undoubtedly grapple with reconciling his mother's unfamiliar visage as the face of a major galactic threat.
Currently, what awaits Baylan Skoll in the extragalactic realm of Perdia remains unknown, but Abeloth stands as the most plausible theory. Given Skoll's desire to put an end to the perpetual conflict between the light and dark sides that has tormented the Star Wars galaxy for ages, it would not be difficult for Abeloth to manipulate him into serving her own agenda of bringing about a catastrophic apocalypse and subsequently forging a new galaxy in her image, one where she is revered and cherished.
The likelihood of Natalie Portman portraying a canonical version of Abeloth with Padme's appearance is quite low. However, the speculation surrounding this idea is enjoyable, and theorizing about it is entertaining. The ability to imagine and ponder the various possibilities is a testament to the success of Ahsoka and the new storytelling opportunities it has created for Lucasfilm and the future of Star Wars.
