Unexpected Encounter: George Lucas Spotted in a 2005 Family Photo Taken at Disney World

An incredible find in a family's 2005 Disney World photo - George Lucas spotted lurking in the background! The Star Wars account couldn't resist responding to this mind-blowing revelation

Mark Chase recently shared a 20-year-old family vacation photo on Twitter/X, claiming that George Lucas had unknowingly photobombed their trip to Disney World. The internet seems to agree with him. The picture was taken using a traditional camera back in 2005, and it wasn't until they got their photos developed that they noticed a prominent figure that resembled the famous filmmaker.

Chase humorously expressed, "We used to playfully tease that George Lucas made a surprise cameo in this photo, but we never thought it could actually be him."

But having a fresh perspective on the photos, Chase and his family now firmly believe that it was indeed the creator of Star Wars and not a doppelganger. Subsequently, the Chase family took it upon themselves to conduct further investigation, as Chase explained to Newsweek. Their efforts led them to the realization that Lucas was, in fact, present at Disney World on the exact same day, February 27, 2005, that they were there. They discovered photographs of Lucas from that day, and upon close examination, his clothing, including his shoes, pants, belt, and watch, all matched up.

"The revelation was mind-boggling," recounted Chase, who was only 11 years old at the time the photograph was captured, in an interview with Newsweek. "The Internet seems to be consumed by it. People are captivated by a good enigma. Hopefully, this sudden surge in popularity will help us obtain concrete evidence to verify whether it is actually him or not."

The social media post received a tremendous amount of attention, amassing 50,000 likes and over 5.5 million impressions, as reported by the social media platform. The official Star Wars Twitter/X account acknowledged the tweet with an eyes emoji, although its significance remains uncertain.

Assuming that was indeed Lucas in the background of the photo, it wouldn't be his first accidental appearance on camera. Years ago, he unintentionally wandered into the frame during the filming of a street documentary.

Lucas made the tough decision to sell Star Wars to Disney in 2012 for a staggering $4.05 billion. Although the sale initially left him feeling somewhat betrayed by Disney, he ultimately believes it was the right move.

Following the acquisition, Disney wasted no time and unveiled a fresh trilogy of movies and spin-offs under the Star Wars banner. Currently, the franchise is taking a well-deserved break before making a triumphant return with a brand new trilogy of films, including the highly-anticipated reappearance of Daisy Ridley as Rey.

Editor's P/S

As a Gen Z fan, I grew up watching the Star Wars films and have always been a big fan of the franchise. I think it's amazing that George Lucas was spotted in a 2005 family photo taken at Disney World. It's such a small world, and it's crazy to think that someone so famous could just happen to be in the background of a random family photo.

I also think it's really cool that the Star Wars account responded to the tweet. It shows that they're paying attention to their fans and that they're willing to have fun with them. I think it's great that they're able to connect with their fans in this way.
