Highlights
Lies of P features linear gameplay through 11 distinct regions/chapters, providing players with a journey full of intricacies and secrets to explore on multiple playthroughs.
The NPC quests in Lies of P are simple and mainly involve finding items. Once the items are located, they can be easily completed.
In order to prevent players from getting lost or forgetting crucial quest information, the game includes a quality-of-life feature. This feature marks NPCs and key items with portrait icons when teleporting to different locations. As a result, players are able to easily find important elements of the game and avoid missing out on valuable rewards and storylines.
Lies of P has been available for a little over a week since its full release, and even longer during its early access period. Despite its long gameplay, there are still many players who are successfully navigating through the game's challenging enemies and obstacles. This indie Soulslike game follows a linear path, with the player's progression driven by the narrative as they move forward, facing bosses and exploring 11 unique regions or chapters, each with its own secrets to discover.
Similar to other Soulslike games, including those developed by FromSoftware, Lies of P also includes quests initiated through interactions with non-playable characters (NPCs). However, unlike FromSoftware games, the quests in Lies of P are straightforward and not confusing or misguided. These quests mostly involve retrieving items, such as cryptic vessels for Lorenzini Venigni or ware caches for puppet butlers Polendina and Pulcinella at Hotel Krat. Fortunately, once these items are found, Lies of P simplifies the process of completing these fetch quests.
Lies of P’s Quality of Life for Certain Items and Quests is a Thankless Service
Due to its vast and extensive world, Lies of P poses a potential challenge for players to navigate and remember their encounters with specific individuals or objects. Without any written records or reminders, players may struggle to recall what someone asked for and where it might be found.
Additionally, if players do succeed in locating the requested item, they face the task of remembering who requested it and where they can be found, assuming they haven't already moved on without notifying the player.
Most side quests in Soulslikes offer this struggle, where players may miss out on valuable loot if they are unable to complete them. However, Lies of P ensures that side quests are almost impossible to leave unfinished. When players use a Stargazer to teleport to another location, any important characters or items related to side quests will be clearly marked with a portrait icon on the specific location. Even if the character Gemini does not mention the side quest or remind players about a key item, they will be reminded when accessing the teleportation menu. This system is truly revolutionary as it encourages players to prioritize completing side quests instead of getting lost in unnecessary details that may be forgotten over time.
However, in Lies of P, the majority of side quests involve players searching for objects or completing tasks within the same region. This ensures that these quests remain memorable to the player as they continue to explore. It is worth noting, however, that not all quests or important items are accompanied by a portrait icon. Despite this limitation, the inclusion of such a system is commendable and serves as a strong example for future Soulslike games to consider.
Lies of P can be purchased for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
