O.J. Simpson passed away from prostate cancer on Wednesday, April 10. Despite this, the former football star never openly talked about his diagnosis.
Back in February, it was revealed by Las Vegas’ Local 10 News that Simpson had been diagnosed with cancer and was receiving chemotherapy.
However, when rumors started spreading that Simpson was in hospice care, Simpson went on social media to set the record straight.
In a video shared on X on February 9, Simpson exclaimed, “Hospice? Hospice?! You talkin’ about hospice? No, I’m not in any hospice. I don’t know who spread that rumor.”
Simpson then mentioned, "The media can't be trusted," and excitedly talked about his upcoming Super Bowl party with a lot of friends.
He did not deny in the video that he had received a cancer diagnosis.
Simpson was last active on social media on February 11, when he shared a video sharing his Super Bowl pick. He ended the video with a heartfelt message, saying, "God bless, take care."
On Thursday, April 11, Simpson's family sadly confirmed his passing.
On April 10th, our father, Orenthal James Simpson, passed away after his fight with cancer. He was 76 years old. His family shared a message through Simpson’s X account, stating that he was surrounded by his children and grandchildren during his final moments. They request privacy and understanding during this difficult time.
In 1994, Simpson was arrested and charged with the murders of his ex-wife Nicole Brown and her friend Ronald Goldman. Despite being acquitted in a high-profile case known as "The Trial of the Century," Simpson was later found liable for their deaths in a civil trial three years later.
Simpson faced charges of armed robbery and kidnapping in 2007 following an altercation with sports memorabilia collectors in Las Vegas. He spent nearly nine years in a Nevada prison before being released in October 2021.
In December 2021, Simpson was granted parole for good behavior, which meant he was now a completely free man.
After being released from prison, Simpson stayed active on social media by regularly sharing videos of his NFL and college football predictions.
Before he became known for his involvement in a murder trial, Simpson was a standout college football player at the University of Southern California. In 1968, he even won the prestigious Heisman Trophy. After being selected as the first overall pick by the Buffalo Bills in the 1969 draft, Simpson played nine seasons with the team. He later finished his football career with a two-season run with the San Francisco 49ers.
