Michelle Yeoh is heading to Netflix and the world celebrates her arrival – but what's the new series The Brothers Sun all about?
Following the incredible triumph of Everything Everywhere All At Once, both Michelle Yeoh and Asian-focused narratives continue to rise in popularity.
In the grand scheme of things, movies like Joyride, Quiz Lady, and Shortcomings have resonated with fans, while Michelle has appeared in A Haunting in Venice and Transformers: Rise of the Beasts since winning an Academy Award. Now, the two worlds will collide again with the new Netflix series The Brothers Sun - but what is it about? Here's everything you need to know.
What is The Brothers Sun about?
Netflix
Netflix describes The Brothers Sun as an action-packed family drama with a twisted sense of humor. The story begins with the head of a powerful Taiwanese triad being shot by a mysterious assassin. His eldest son, legendary killer Charles “Chairleg” Sun, must then travel to Los Angeles to protect his mother, Eileen Sun, and his naive younger brother, Bruce, who has been kept in the dark about their family's truth until now.
As Taipei’s deadliest societies and a new rising faction fight for dominance, Charles, Bruce, and their mother must come together to heal the wounds caused by their separation. They must also figure out what brotherhood and family truly mean before their countless enemies succeed in killing them all.
The show explores the universal themes of family dynamics, according to showrunner Brad Falchuk, speaking to Netflix. “We do an extreme version of it because they’re a crime family and there are people shooting at them and trying to kill them. But the conflicts they’re having — the problems they’re having internally, the emotional problems — are very, very universal.”
