In the opening of Final Fantasy 16's Here Be Monsters main quest, Clive makes his way back to The Hideaway alongside Jill, as they prepare for their upcoming journey to the isle of Drustanus. Prior to their departure, players are presented with an opportunity to embark on two fresh side quests by locating the quest-givers within The Hideaway and engaging with them.
One of these side quests, known as Blacksmith's Blues, in Final Fantasy 16, assigns Clive the task of finding a solution to uplift the spirits of Blackthorne, the esteemed blacksmith of The Hideaway. While it may initially appear to be a straightforward undertaking, this objective can prove to be rather challenging if Clive has not yet attained Level 28.
How To Start Blacksmith's Blues In Final Fantasy 16
To initiate the Blacksmith's Blues side quest in Final Fantasy 16, Clive needs to venture to The Mess area in The Hideaway and approach August, who can be spotted gazing towards the horizon in the southeastern corner.
August will express his concerns regarding Blackthorne, the sole blacksmith of The Hideaway. Unfortunately, August lacks any knowledge regarding the source of Blackthorne's troubles, placing the responsibility on Clive to unravel the mystery.
After accepting the quest from August, Clive must retrace his steps and make his way to the Boarding Deck, then proceed northwards towards the Main Deck. At the first junction, he should turn left and take the immediate right, which will lead him to The Black Hammer. There, Blackthorne's Forge awaits, with Blackthorne himself diligently working at his anvil. As Clive approaches and interacts with Blackthorne, August materializes before their very eyes.
August would inquire about Blackthorne's troubles, prompting him to confess his dissatisfaction with his declining blacksmithing abilities. With the intention of rekindling Blackthorne's fervor for his trade, Clive would embark on a quest to find an exquisitely crafted Leather Cuirass for Blackthorne to analyze and be inspired by.
When the conversation concludes, Clive can simply redirect his attention to the right where Charon awaits, positioned just beside the entrance of The Black Hammer. Yet, as Clive engages in conversation with her, he receives disheartening news: the Leather Cuirass has already been sold.
How To Find Dozmare The Griffin
The purchaser of the Leather Cuirass from Charon is undoubtedly a skilled leatherworker, as their upcoming task involves locating and overcoming a formidable Griffin. Clive, armed with this valuable information, must now embark on a journey from The Hideaway. But before setting off, he must prioritize a visit to The Mess, where he can engage in a conversation with Nektar, the knowledgeable Moogle stationed beside the Hunt Board.
Upon conversing with Nektar, players are required to choose the "Inquire about griffin sightings" alternative. Subsequently, they are granted the opportunity to investigate the Hunt Board in order to gain intelligence regarding the whereabouts of the Griffin, colloquially referred to as Dozmare.
To efficiently reach the domain of the Griffin, Dozmare, players can opt for the fastest method - by choosing to fast-travel to the Lostwing Obelisk. Once there, they should follow the path that leads through Cutter's Gate. Upon reaching the Caer Norvent River Gate, Clive should head south towards the castle's wall to initiate the battle.
In case players have already accomplished The White-Winged Wonder, Clive has the advantage of swiftly reaching the Caer Norvent River Gate by utilizing his Chocobo, which can be summoned and ridden.
How To Beat Dozmare The Griffin
Dozmare can be a deceptive foe, as its opening attacks are easily avoidable and exploitable. However, the battle becomes considerably more challenging once the creature's health drops below half. In this phase, Dozmare unleashes powerful wind-based assaults that can inflict significant damage on Clive. To counter this, players should make sure Clive is fully equipped with healing items before engaging in battle.
Overall, players can succeed by evading Dozmare's physical attacks; although they may be swift, they can be predicted with ease if Clive maintains a safe distance.
Dozmare possesses a highly dangerous ability wherein it ascends into the sky and engulfs itself in a miniature tornado. If Clive happens to be within the tornado's vicinity, he can evade to prevent any harm.
Navigating through Dozmare's Noble Dive maneuver can also pose a challenge. This attack involves the creature taking flight and then swooping down towards Clive. The aftermath of this move generates a substantial shockwave, so players should promptly move away as soon as they spot the "Noble Dive" text above Dozmare's body, ensuring that Clive remains unscathed.
Being a Griffin, Dozmare will frequently take to the skies to execute a range of attacks. Clive's physical attacks may not be as effective during these moments, but players can compensate for this by relying on Ramuh's ranged abilities. Not only can these attacks successfully target the creature when it's airborne, but they can also inflict considerable damage. Ramuh's projectile abilities can be utilized from a distance, allowing Clive to maintain his distance from Dozmare while relying on them.
If players are cautious to avoid Dozmare's formidable attacks and frequently utilize the Dodge button, they can triumph over the battle without much difficulty. However, if Clive is not leveled up sufficiently and players believe that Dozmare is overpowering him, it may be necessary to enhance Clive's level to restore balance.
As a token of victory against Dozmare, Clive will be granted 1 Scarletite and 1 Meteorite, which can be utilized for crafting and enhancing his equipment.

After the chaos subsides, Clive, the leather worker, can be located just south of the battlefield. Once Clive is approached, he will generously provide him with Treated Leather to be delivered to Blackthorne.
Returning swiftly to The Hideaway, Clive can make his way back to The Black Hammer where he will find Blackthorne. Clive must then give him the Treated Leather and engage in an extensive conversation during which Blackthorne expresses admiration for Kamil's craftsmanship. Following this dialogue, the quest will conclude, and Clive will be rewarded with a Drakeslayer's Belt Design Draft, an essential recipe for crafting the Drakeslayer's Belt.
