Uncover the Malevolent Mystery in Baldur's Gate 3: The Enigmatic Toys Investigation

Uncover a sinister scheme in the town of Rivington that leads to an unsuspecting shop in Baldur's Gate Embark on a thrilling quest to delve into Arfur's Basement, explore the Requisitioned Barn, confront the mastermind, and thwart the explosive Felogyr's Fireworks

Act 3 in Baldur's Gate 3 commences in the town of Rivington, situated on the outskirts of the main city. During their time in Rivington, players encounter various quests, including one titled "Investigate the Suspicious Toys." This particular quest centers around a sinister scheme to provide refugee children with explosive-filled toy bears.

To initiate the quest, players must first explore one of two restricted areas within Rivington. In order to successfully finish the quest, players will eventually need to locate a specific area in the Lower City of Baldur's Gate. Continue reading to discover the precise steps required to accomplish this unique quest in Baldur's Gate 3.

Investigate Arfur's Basement

In Act 3, players will come across a man named Arfur Gregorio having an argument with a refugee family who has taken over his house. It is up to the players to resolve this dispute, but it does not impact the progress of the "Suspicious Toys" quest. The only change is the location where players will find Arfur later on.

After settling the dispute, players should proceed to enter Arfur's house and head to the room directly opposite the front door. In this room, there is a hidden hatch concealed by a table on the right. While a Perception check can assist in locating the hatch, players can still find it even without a successful roll.

The entrance leads to Arfur's Basement. Exercise caution when descending, as the room is booby-trapped with tripwires that trigger explosive fireworks. On the opposite side of the basement, players may notice a heavy chest that is locked. Unlock the chest to discover a generous stack of gold coins and an incriminating Blackmail Letter. Take a moment to peruse the letter in order to initiate or advance the "Suspicious Toys" quest.

Search The Requisitioned Barn

An alternative starting point for this quest can be found at the Requisitioned Barn, located within the refugee camp section of the map. Caution should be exercised as the Flaming Fist guards, now in control of the barn, will become hostile if they discover the presence of the party. However, players of Baldur's Gate 3 have the option to utilize stealth, spells, and potions in order to avoid drawing unwanted attention.

In the barn's northern corner, there is a crate filled with toy bears. It's important to note that this crate may not be visible until the party gets closer. By making an Investigation check, players can discover that the crate is trapped, and a party member can then use Sleight of Hand to disable the trap. If the party fails to notice the trap, they can still progress in the quest by attempting to interact with the crate, resulting in an explosion.

Whether the party disarms the crate or triggers it, a Flaming Fist named Manip Nestor will approach and inquire about the situation. To convince Nestor that they are not responsible for the bears, the speaker must succeed in a Persuasion check with a DC of 15 or a Deception check with a DC of 20. If successful, the party can leave without initiating a fight or facing arrest. It should be noted that this will be the only time the Flaming Fist intervenes in this particular quest.

Confront Arfur

Players have the option to complete the previous steps in any order, but they are required to do both before confronting Arfur with their knowledge. Depending on how players handled the refugees, Arfur can be found either in his house or the performance room of Sharess' Caress.

In order to obtain additional information from Arfur, players in Baldur's Gate 3 must pass an Intimidation DC 10 check. Successfully intimidating him will result in Arfur divulging details about the deliveries he receives from Felogyr's Fireworks in the Lower City of Baldur's Gate. Additionally, Arfur will provide the party with his Admission Pass to Gortash's coronation, granting them access past the Wyrm's Rock Fortress drawbridge.

Destroy Felogyr's Fireworks

Players have the option to either accept a bribe from Arfur, release him, or eliminate him. Upon his defeat, the party can acquire both Arfur's money and his pass from his corpse, or simply accept the money as a bribe. However, it is important to note that none of these choices will progress the quest. Nonetheless, players can gather valuable information by extracting the name Felogyr from the Blackmail Letter, which can be used to trace the operation. While the map marker received by advancing the quest proves useful, it is not indispensable.

Situated southwest of Basilisk Gate, Felogyr's Fireworks is conveniently positioned directly south of Sorcerous Sundries and a short ascent up the stairs from the Heapside Strand waypoint. Upon entering, visitors will immediately encounter Avery Sonshal diligently imparting knowledge on the importance of firework safety to an eager young student. However, an unexpected revelation awaits as they soon uncover that Avery Sonshal himself harbors an Absolutist tadpole within his being.

If players manage to intimidate Arfur, they will receive a password granting access to the second floor. There, they will find a trader selling various grenades and poisons. However, the party will face refusal from the clerk and guard on this floor, preventing them from progressing to the third floor. This third floor is where players will encounter a group of Banites who are using the fireworks store as a front to manufacture explosives, including those concealed within children's toys.

Assuming players are not aligning themselves with Gortash and the church of Bane, the only way to complete this quest is to dismantle the operation. Fortunately, accomplishing this task is much simpler than the presence of numerous potential enemies would indicate. Both the second and third floors of the store are filled with volatile barrels and fireworks. To proceed, the party must send a stealthy individual to the third floor and ignite one of the barrels with a flaming arrow or a Fire Bolt spell. This action will trigger a chain reaction that will eliminate most of the enemies on that floor.

Players should be aware that both Avery and the guards on the lower floors will become hostile at the same time as the Banites on the top floor. Avery poses a significant threat as he possesses a strong affinity for Fire spells such as Fire Bolt, Burning Hands, and Fireball. If players fail to utilize explosive barrels against their enemies, Avery will exploit this opportunity and use them against the party.

Once all the employees in Felogyr's Fireworks have been defeated, the quest "Investigate the Suspicious Toys" will conclude. However, caution should be exercised when exploring and looting the top floor of the store as it is still off-limits, and the presence of Flaming Fist units will prevent the party from trespassing if they are in close proximity.
