Valve's Steam Deck is currently available for purchase at a discounted price, as part of the annual Steam Summer Sale. Since its launch last year, this gaming hardware has become a favorite among gamers, with a wide range of titles, including Cyberpunk 2077 and Hi-Fi Rush, supporting the Steam Deck. Valve is clearly taking advantage of the device's popularity during their latest Steam sale.
Unsurprisingly, the Steam Deck continues to be a popular choice among gamers. Due to challenges in meeting demand and ensuring sufficient supply, customers had to wait eight months to order the device without reservations. Around October 2022, the Steam Deck reportedly surpassed one million units sold. By early March, Valve's internal research revealed that approximately 42% of Steam Deck owners prefer gaming on this device over other platforms.
Following the increasing demand, Valve has made the Steam Deck available for purchase during the ongoing Steam Summer Sale, along with a variety of discounted games. Although Valve previously offered the Steam Deck for sale in March, gamers rarely had the opportunity to acquire the handheld device at a reduced price. As a result, interested buyers now have the chance to purchase the 64GB base model at a 10% discount for $359.10, while the 256GB model is available at a 15% discount for $449.65. Furthermore, gamers can now buy the 512GB Steam Deck for $519.20, which is $129.80 off its regular price. The discounted options can be purchased from the Steam Store starting from June 29th until July 13th.
Valve's focus extends beyond hardware, as they actively invest in software improvements. They recently revealed a significant visual update to the Steam desktop client, which enhanced its font, notifications, and download tab, among other features. This updated user interface also made its way to mobile devices and the Steam Deck. Moreover, the changes introduced a revamped in-game overlay for desktop users, along with a new Notes feature that was previously only available in a Steam beta client version.
It remains uncertain whether Valve intends to provide discounted pricing for the Steam Deck in the near future, possibly following the Steam Summer Sale. Nevertheless, it's reasonable to assume that the company has plans for additional sales of the Steam Deck throughout the year, especially considering the numerous Steam sale events scheduled for 2023. This news would be well-received by PC gamers who are keen to have a viable handheld option like the Steam Deck. Ultimately, only time will reveal the extent of its appeal and success for Valve in the coming months and years.
