Diablo 4 has generated a lot of excitement as a highly anticipated action RPG. While it's not currently available on the Steam Store, Steam Deck users can still enjoy the game with a few workarounds. The good news is that Diablo 4 runs smoothly and boasts impressive visuals on the handheld device, and fans can easily access the full experience without having to adjust too many settings. To run the game on a Steam Deck, users will need to have access to Battle.net and follow a few simple steps to get both Battle.net and Diablo 4 up and running.
Installing Battle Net
To run Diablo 4, users must first have Blizzard's Battle.net installed. However, the installation process has been made easier thanks to a convenient installer created by Moraroy on Github. Unlike other methods such as Lutris, using this installer is a much less challenging process.
To begin, users should ensure that their Steam Deck has enough battery or is plugged into the mains. Next, they can switch to Desktop Mode by pressing the Steam Button below the left trackpad and selecting Power and Switch to Desktop Mode. While in Desktop Mode, users may want to connect a keyboard and mouse for ease of use. From there, they can launch their preferred browser and download the Easy Installer from the provided link. Once downloaded, users can select Extract and place it in their desired folder.
Click on the NonSteam Launchers On Steam Deck folder. Click on NonSteamLaunchers.desktop and select Execute and Continue.Put a tick Separate App IDs.
Opting for Separate App IDs guarantees that both Battle.net and other installed applications will be visible in the non-Steam Library. Once you have identified Battle.net in the list of launchers, simply check the box next to it and hit OK. Following the installation process, the Steam Deck will reboot into Big Picture Mode.
Setting Up Battle Net
Switch to Gaming Mode and select Library. Look for Battle.net under the Non-Steam category, but hold off on clicking Play for now. Instead, click on the controller icon and use the Gamepad with Mouse Trackpad. Next, click on the settings cog and select Properties. From there, highlight Compatibility and make sure to check the box that says "Force the use of specific Steam Play compatibility" and use the latest version of Proton. Finally, either sign in to Battle.net with your user login details or create a free Battle.net account.
Playing Diablo 4
To get started with Diablo 4, head over to the Battle.net store and make your purchase. Once you've completed the download and installation process, remember to select "Create Desktop Shortcut" so that you can easily launch the game in Desktop Mode. When selecting installation options, be sure to tick "Base Game" and untick "High-Resolution Assets" to save space on your Steam Deck. With Diablo 4 ready to play, you can now enjoy this exciting game on your Steam Deck or any other device purchased through the Battle.net store. And don't forget, Diablo 4 is also available for a variety of other platforms, including PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
