Bugs in video games can sometimes lead to amusing situations, as demonstrated by an incident in Destiny 2. One player discovered that their weapon was suddenly producing a mechanic that is usually reserved for the annual Dawning event. Destiny 2 has had its fair share of bugs, glitches, and unintended interactions involving weapons, armor, and even the game's environment. While the developers are usually quick to address these issues, it serves as a reminder that maintaining live-service games in perfect condition is a difficult task.
Similar to other live-service games, Destiny 2 celebrates special occasions like Halloween and Valentine's Day with temporary events that offer thematic activities and exclusive rewards. Among these events, the Dawning is highly anticipated by the community. Introduced in Destiny: Rise of Iron, the Dawning is centered around Wintertime celebrations and brings various changes to the world of Destiny 2. The Tower is decorated with snowballs and frozen decor, adding a festive touch. Snowballs can also be found in the different Patrol Zones and Lost Sectors, offering a fun offensive option. Additionally, players can partake in the lighthearted activity of baking cookies for NPC characters, which is also one of the easiest ways to obtain some of the best weapons in Destiny 2.
The current version of the Dawning event differs significantly from its original structure. Bungie has made notable changes by introducing the Stasis element to snowballs in 2021, allowing for various benefits. Conversely, when players eliminate enemies using Stasis during the Dawning, there is a chance for snowballs to appear, creating a gameplay loop. A Destiny 2 player named hellfangz shared a gameplay clip on Twitter, showcasing the moment they killed a Hive wizard with the Riptide Stasis Fusion Rifle. Surprisingly, two snowballs were generated, which hellfangz and their teammate quickly picked up. Just as they realized what had occurred, the teammate threw their snowball, resulting in a large explosion. The player then threw their snowball at nearby enemies, leading to a series of cascading explosions, much to the amusement and astonishment of hellfangz and their teammates.
In the comments section, the player revealed that they were able to reproduce this bug four times during their mission to obtain Destiny 2's latest Exotic weapon. They pointed out that using Riptide with the Chill Clip Legendary perk may have been a crucial factor in triggering the bug. Importantly, the snowballs retained their ability to slow down powerful enemies and efficiently eliminate weaker ones. However, in subsequent runs with the same weapon, the bug did not occur, suggesting that there might be underlying factors contributing to its occurrence.
