The introduction of the new timeline in Mortal Kombat 1 has successfully established peace among the realms. However, this newfound tranquility is now being jeopardized by emerging threats, demanding the involvement of familiar characters with revised narratives.
In the past, NetherRealm has delighted fans with a movie skin pack that pays homage to the 1995 film. Considering the positive response, there is immense potential for a similar pack inspired by the latest movie adaptation of Mortal Kombat 1.
The new Mortal Kombat 1 game introduces fresh character designs, reflecting a new era for NetherRealm. One player suggests a post-launch cosmetic pack inspired by the 2021 Mortal Kombat film, which offered its own unique visual interpretations of iconic characters like Sub-Zero, Kano, and Scorpion. This player noticed similarities between the film's characters and those in the upcoming game, inspiring the idea for an additional cosmetic pack.
In Mortal Kombat 1, the franchise's universe is undergoing significant changes. Liu Kang has ascended to godhood, and Kronika has been defeated in Mortal Kombat 11, bringing a period of prolonged peace to the realms that was absent in the previous timeline. However, new threats are emerging despite Liu Kang's efforts, necessitating the assistance of familiar characters whose own stories have been drastically altered in this new era.
Liu Kang's new era not only brings fresh narratives for familiar characters but also introduces unique designs that distinguish them from previous iterations. Reddit user Cornpopwasbad noticed these new designs, particularly for characters like Sub-Zero and Shang Tsung, which bear similarity to their appearances in the 2021 live-action film. Given these resemblances, Cornpopwasbad expresses a desire for a movie skin pack for Mortal Kombat 11.
This wouldn't be the first time NetherRealm has released a movie skin pack. Previously, a pack based on the original 1995 film was made available for Mortal Kombat 11. Players were treated to the return of actor Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa as Shang Tsung in the game's Aftermath DLC, followed by a comprehensive update. This update allowed players to assume the appearances of actors Christopher Lambert, Linden Ashby, and Bridgette Wilson, who portrayed Raiden, Johnny Cage, and Sonya Blade respectively in the 1995 film. To further enhance the experience, the actors recorded dialogue for their respective characters as a finishing touch.
The inclusion of powerhouse names from both the big and small screen has already been confirmed for the upcoming Mortal Kombat 1 film. Action movie legend Jean-Clause Van Damme will be lending his voice and likeness as a bonus skin for Johnny Cage, exclusively available to those who purchase the deluxe edition. Additionally, the first Kombat Pack will introduce iconic characters such as Homelander, Peacemaker, and Omni-Man to the main roster, alongside the returning favorites Takeda, Quan Chi, and Ermac.
Mortal Kombat 1 is set to release on September 19 for Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
