Side quests have the potential to enhance a video game by offering players a break from the main storyline and introducing fresh content. They can also contribute to world-building and add depth to a game's narrative. However, there are some side quests in Final Fantasy 16 that seem to serve no purpose other than to artificially prolong the gameplay time, giving players a seemingly meaningless task to occupy their time.
Unfortunately, "Make Do and Mend" is one of the side quests that falls into the category of fetch quests. Thankfully, this quest is relatively short and offers players a valuable reward that can enhance Clive's abilities for future battles. Considering this, it is advisable to take a moment to complete "Make Do and Mend", especially for those who do not have access to Clive's pre-order weapon.
How to Complete Make Do and Mend in Final Fantasy 16
To initiate the "Make Do and Mend" quest, players must reach the "Hide, Hideaway" main story mission and receive the task of constructing for the Greatwood. The first step involves conversing with Geoffroy, the Head Carpenter of the hideaway. Located at the opposite end of the Hideaway, Geoffroy can be found near the exit leading to the world map. Currently occupied with fortifying the walls, he will request players to retrieve a plank from the nearby White Adze.
Assuming players prioritize the quest in Final Fantasy 16, they will have the option to follow a yellow quest marker that leads to an unnamed carpenter at the White Adze mentioned earlier. Located near The Black Hammer, the carpenter's location is easily identifiable due to the substantial piles of wood. Upon reaching the carpenter, Clive will receive permission to take one of the nearby planks, which players can then transport back to Geoffroy to successfully complete the quest.
Players who successfully complete the "Make Do and Mend" side quest will be rewarded with a Meteorite, a Gil Bug, and 5 XP. The Gil Bug can be sold for 200 Gil, while the Meteorite is a crucial item for enhancing specific weapons and gear at the forge. If players have also completed the "Food for Thought" side quest, they will have enough resources to purchase a Broadsword for Clive from Charon's Toll. With the newly acquired Meteorite, they can then upgrade the Broadsword to its +1 form at the forge, boosting its Attack and Stagger stats to 90. This upgrade provides a significant improvement over Clive's Imperial Infantry Blade. Final Fantasy 16 is currently exclusive to the PlayStation 5 platform.
