Trevor Donovan Speaks Out Against Mauricio Umansky Romance Rumors after Dancing with the Stars Partnership with Emma Slater

Trevor Donovon is coming to former Dancing With the Stars partner Emma Slater’s defense.

On Friday, October 27, the 41-year-old actor addressed rumors on social media that Slater, 34, is dating her season 32 partner, Mauricio Umansky, following his separation from wife Kyle Richards.

Reflecting on her time on the show, Donovan shared via X (formerly known as Twitter), "The intense pressures of #DWTS are often misunderstood. The exhaustive rehearsals and the stress of the show night performance create a natural bond and friendship between partners."

Donovan, who gained attention for his strong bond with Slater during their time as partners, expressed that he formed a deep connection with the Australian dancer and that their closeness remains to this day. He acknowledged that some may perceive drama where there is none.

Speculation about a romantic relationship between Slater and Umansky, aged 53, started circulating recently after they were seen holding hands in Beverly Hills. However, the pair clarified that they are simply close friends and nothing more.

"We want to make it clear that we are not dating," Umansky stated in an Instagram Story video on Thursday, October 26. He went on to explain, "For the past six weeks, we have been dancing together, dedicating four hours every single day." The real estate mogul shared that after a particularly intense and emotional week, he and Slater decided to unwind by having dinner at a restaurant. "During the meal, we were discussing the week, and as we left, we continued to talk while holding hands on our way to the cars," he recounted.

Slater, who filed for divorce from her estranged husband and fellow DWTS pro Sasha Farber in February, described the show's process as "intense." She noted that a unique bond is formed between the celebrity and their professional dance partner, highlighting the shared "similar personalities" between herself and Umansky.

Rumors of a romantic relationship between Umansky and Richards have surfaced amidst their separation after 27 years of marriage. In July, the couple confirmed their separation, stating that they had experienced a challenging year but had no intentions of getting a divorce. (Umansky and Richards have three daughters together: Alexia, 27, Sophia, 23, and Portia, 15. Richards also has a daughter, Farrah, 34, from her previous marriage to Guraish Aldjufrie.)

After the photographs of them holding hands became widely shared, Richards removed a September Instagram post showing her support for Umansky and Slater's DWTS partnership. She later admitted feeling hurt by the images.

During an episode of Watch What Happens Live on Wednesday, October 25, the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star discussed the situation with host Andy Cohen. She expressed her love for Umansky and emphasized the amicable nature of their relationship. Richards also confessed that she was taken aback and found it very difficult to see the snaps.

"That was really hurtful. ... I simply don't believe that you should hold hands with someone in that manner," she expressed.

Slater has experienced her fair share of romance speculations throughout her DWTS collaborations. Her connection with Donovan drew attention during season 31 as their chemistry on the ballroom floor became increasingly noticeable.

She also highlighted the strong connection and chemistry they share. Several weeks later, during an episode in October 2022, Donovan praised the familiar and light chemistry he shares with Slater. He described their connection as a fun and enjoyable dynamic, which translates into their performances on the dance floor. Despite occasional challenges during rehearsals, their friendship's levity and ease contribute to their comfort and compatibility.
