Travis Kelce experienced his own Beatlemania moment when he visited Taylor Swift in Australia, although he may not have fully understood the reference.
In a recent episode of “New Heights” on Wednesday, March 6, Jason Kelce questioned Travis about his trip to Sydney to show support for Swift during one of her Eras Tour performances. Jason was curious about what Travis, whose age is 34, was up to.
Travis mentioned that there were some untrue stories going around about his time in Australia. He then shared how overwhelming it was to be greeted by a crowd of cameras upon his arrival.
Jason playfully compared Travis to The Beatles and jokingly called himself Yoko Ono.
Travis thought about the comment but seemed puzzled. "Isn't that a speed skater?" he asked, thinking of Olympian Apolo Ohno.
The confusion made Jason burst into laughter. He tried to explain Ono's importance but couldn't quite remember all the details. "I don't even know the whole story," Jason admitted. "I know she was connected to John Lennon. ... She might have been a figure skater, actually. I mean, who knows."
Ono, who is 91 years old, was married to Lennon from 1969 until his passing in 1980. On the other hand, Ohno, 41, has earned eight Olympic medals and even won a Dancing With the Stars mirrorball trophy.
We received confirmation on February 21 that Travis had arrived in Sydney. His landing was captured by a local news channel, with cameras rolling as the athlete disembarked from the plane.
After visiting the Sydney Zoo for the second time during her stay, Travis showed his support for his girlfriend at her Eras Tour concert on February 23 at Accor Stadium. Travis expressed his excitement on the podcast, saying, "Australia was truly amazing."
He noted that while Australian crowds were already lively, Swift's fans took it to a whole new level. Travis mentioned, "Taylor loves performing in Australia because of the energetic crowds and how involved they are." He gave a shout-out to Australia for their enthusiastic support.
Some fans came to the concert wearing Kansas City Chiefs jerseys to show support for Travis. He thought it was really cool to see his jersey being worn, especially at a football game.
Editor's P/S:
Travis Kelce's confusion over Yoko Ono's identity highlights the generational gap in cultural awareness. While younger generations may not be familiar with the iconic Beatles' collaborator, her significance in music history remains undeniable. Ono's influence extended beyond her relationship with John Lennon, as she was an artist, activist, and musician in her own right. Her experimental music and avant-garde performances challenged societal norms and pushed the boundaries of artistic expression.
Kelce's trip to Australia also showcased the global reach of Taylor Swift's music. The enthusiastic crowds and the presence of fans wearing Kansas City Chiefs jerseys demonstrate the artist's ability to connect with audiences worldwide. Swift's energetic performances and her appreciation for her Australian fans highlight the power of music to bring people together and create a sense of community.
