Travis Barker and Shanna Moakler's relationship has been marked by custody battles, allegations of infidelity, and other issues. After being married for two years and welcoming two children, the couple initially separated in 2006. They then had an on-and-off relationship for two more years before officially divorcing in 2008.
Court documents obtained by We in May 2021 revealed that the custody battle between them became contentious in 2014.
Moakler texted Barker at the time, as stated in the court documents, "Please keep your drug addict girlfriends away from my kids. All kids from divorced families go through a transition period, I should have never allowed this from when we were separated..."
Barker replied that he “hate[s]” his ex and said he had “nothing nice” to say to her. He also called her a “f–king call girl.”

He claimed that Moakler had been neglecting their children. "I am an extremely hands-on parent," he explained. "I not only frequently drive our children to and from school, tutoring, doctor's appointments, and extracurricular activities, but I also ensure they complete their homework, prepare their meals, spend time playing with them, organize all of their birthday parties, and choose their activities. I even bought another house in Cheviot Hills to be closer to their school. I have reservations about our children's safety and welfare while they are at Shanna's home."

Barker expressed his strong dislike for his ex and stated that he has nothing positive to say about her. He also used offensive language to describe her.
Additionally, he accused Moakler of not being an involved parent to their children. Barker claimed that he is highly involved in his children's lives, taking them to various appointments and events, helping with their homework, preparing meals, and organizing their activities. He even purchased a new home to be closer to their school out of concern for their safety and well-being in Moakler's care.

In 2005, cameras began documenting their relationship for an MTV reality series called Meet the Barkers.
Barker expressed his feelings about the reality show's impact on Shanna, and how her behavior seemed to change for the sake of the cameras. According to his 2015 book, Can I Say, he felt that Shanna's desire to become an actress led her to act differently for the cameras, creating a more theatrical and less authentic portrayal of herself in their reality show.

2006
In the same year that Meet the Barkers came to an end after two seasons, the drummer initiated divorce proceedings. Subsequently, the former couple engaged in a public war of words, with Barker accusing Moakler of infidelity and publicly labeling her as lazy on MySpace. In response, she informed TMZ that her ex-husband required professional assistance. The drama also involved Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, and Kim Kardashian, with multiple reports suggesting that Moakler confronted these women when they were spotted with Barker at various clubs and parties on different occasions.

2008
After Barker’s near-fatal plane crash in 2008, the couple patched things up, but their reconciliation was short-lived as he accused her of cheating while he was still recovering. Moakler then alleged that he was unfaithful during their marriage. They finalized their divorce in 2008 but continued to live together in order to co-parent Landon and Alabama, and agreed to joint custody.

2014
Their custody battle for their kids turned nasty in 2014.
In court documents obtained by Us, he expressed his belief that Shanna loves their children but does not prioritize their interests. He points out her absence at events like Landon's football and basketball games and Alabama's dance performance as an example. He attends every one of their children's events when he is in town and believes it is crucial for their children to see their parents involved and supportive. He also highlighted the difference in their parenting beliefs, with Shanna indicating that she intended for their children to be raised by nannies. Meanwhile, Shanna alleged that Barker had threatened her in the past and referred to their relationship as "a very sick cycle."

2014
The ongoing back-and-forth relationship between the duo continued over the years, leading to a call to the police after an alleged altercation in December 2014. Barker claimed that he was told by Moakler, "I will put a bullet in your head," while Moakler alleged to the officers that Barker "threatened to have her boyfriend come and beat him up." Following an investigation into the incident, no arrests were made.

2016
Barker submitted a request to modify the spousal and child support payments to Moakler in 2014. In a 2016 interview, the musician mentioned that the ex-spouses were focused on improving their co-parenting relationship.
"I purchased a home that is conveniently close to my children's school. This way, when she's with the kids, she's there; and when I'm with the kids, I'm there. We don't have to shuttle them back and forth between different houses,” he told People at the time. “The children's well-being is our top priority — nothing else matters. Our romantic relationship is a thing of the past. We are simply being friendly and focused on co-parenting in the best way possible."

2018
The court sealed the results of their child custody evaluation order in 2018, though Barker and Moakler seemingly continued to have joint custody of Landon and Alabama.

2021
Barker and Kourtney began dating in late 2020. Despite Moakler's initial approval, she made subtle comments about the romance. In May 2021, she had her tattoo of his name removed and advised against getting names tattooed on one's body. She shared on Instagram, "It’s my ex’s name. Don’t tattoo names on your body, kids. Bye-bye, tattoo. I think we’ll probably only need one more session on this tattoo, and I think I’ll be good. That is intense, but it’s worth it!"
Later, she spoke about Barker removing his tattoo of her initials. "To all my newfound haters, I want to make it clear that my ex covered our initials with a skull tattoo on his hand while his new girlfriend watched," she wrote on social media, referring to Kourtney. "This was done intentionally and with the purpose of trying to insult me and my happiness with my new boyfriend [Matthew]. Once again, strange!"

2021
As Barker’s relationship with Kourtney heated up, Moakler alleged to Us in May 2021 that he had an affair with the reality star’s sister Kim Kardashian in the early 2000s.
She stated that the reason for her divorce was catching her ex in an affair. She received evidence of their conversations and got confirmation from close friends who were present during the affair. They were trying to work on their marriage despite the infidelity, but her ex continued to work with the person they had the affair with. Meanwhile, Blink-182 drummer, Barker, claimed in his 2015 book that he never had any physical contact with Kim when he was spending time with her then-BFF Paris Hilton. Kim Kardashian also denied having a romantic relationship with him.

2021
In May 2021, Landon and Alabama came forward with allegations against their mother. "My mom has never truly been fully present in my life. Can you guys please stop portraying her as an amazing mom?" Alabama expressed on Instagram in response to Moakler's then-boyfriend Matthew Rondeau praising her maternal love. "Did your moms even ask to see you on Mother's Day because mine didn't? I'm done keeping this reality a secret."
Landon, on the other hand, expressed on TikTok that Moakler is not present in their lives like the Blink-182 musician. Moakler responded to the allegations as "completely ridiculous" in an Instagram comment.

2022
Following Barker's hospitalization for pancreatitis, the former Playboy model expressed her gratitude to those who have shown concern for her ex and father of her children. In an exclusive statement to Us in June 2022, she reassured that he is receiving excellent care, surrounded by loving support, and being attended to by the best medical teams, as well as his beautiful wife Kourtney.

2023
After Hulu released a special about Barker and Kardashian's nuptials, Moakler took to social media to "like" some shady comments about the couple.
"Hopefully one day you receive a heartfelt apology for the hurtful comments made on that exploitative, money-driven circus. 'He's been through Hell' 'Kourtney has filled a void for me.' #parentalalienationawareness," wrote a follower on Instagram in April 2023, seemingly referencing the speeches made by Moakler's children about their stepmother.
In response to another comment about Kardashian calling herself "a mom of 6," Moakler replied, "She posts more of my kids than her own lol."

2024
In a preview of an interview on the "Dumb Blonde" podcast that was released in January 2024, Moakler made accusations against Barker, claiming that he had been unfaithful to her and had been harassing her online around the time of their separation in 2008, as well as during his life-threatening plane crash. Moakler stated that she found emails from multiple women while setting up a FaceTime call with their children on his computer.
"[The other women] weren't as bothered when he went to TMZ to write a comment," she said. "You write a comment and then [TMZ] will email you a link, and you have to click on the link to approve the comment. And I saw all of these comments in his email that he was posting about me on TMZ about what a terrible mother I was, what a terrible person I was."
Moakler said that she "couldn't believe that he was the one behind some of those comments." She then left him as he was getting a blood transfusion in a hospital to go home and cry "in my mother’s arms for hours."
