Commencing with an emergency gathering of the Tokyo Manji Gang at Musashi Shrine, the episode promptly delved into Kakucho's parting words towards Takemichi. He cautioned his old comrade about a traitor lurking within Toman's ranks. As Takemichi pondered over the significance of this statement, Mikey and Draken joined the meeting to initiate proceedings and determine the nature of the impending threat they faced.

As the First Division and other cohorts recounted their combat experiences, the majority of Toman members began to uncover a startling truth - the highest-ranking officers of Tenjiku hailed from a group known as the S-62 Generation. This revelation shed light on the fact that Tenjiku's grudge against Toman ran much deeper than a mere rivalry. In response, Mikey boldly proclaimed his intention to confront Tenjiku on their own turf in Yokohama.

Upon hearing Mikey's declaration, a sense of unease gripped Takemichi, fearing that this might be exactly what Kisaki had intended. Realizing that he could do little to prevent the impending conflict at that moment, Chifuyu urged Takemichi to return to the present and uncover the outcome of the gang battle. Hurriedly searching for Naoto Tachibana to initiate another time leap, Takemichi unexpectedly encountered Hinata, a poignant reminder of his original purpose and unwavering determination.

Who Is Izana Kurokawa?

Takemichi was puzzled when he spoke to Naoto, the adult version, after his time leap. He discovered that there was very little information about Tenjiku, Kisaki was officially declared dead, and Izana Kurokawa was now known as a former leader of Black Dragon and a high-ranking member of Toman. Because of these discrepancies, Takemichi and Naoto decided to dig deeper and conduct their own investigations. Naoto focused on going through police records, while Takemichi worked on gathering leads about Black Dragon.

Takemichi's search eventually led him to the same church from the Christmas Showdown Arc. He unexpectedly encountered Taiju Shiba, who had transformed and was grieving the loss of his brother, Hakkai. Taiju, now a restaurant owner, held a grudge against Toman for his brother's death. He agreed to meet with Takemichi and Naoto to share information for their investigation. During their conversation, Taiju confirmed his knowledge of Izana's past in Black Dragon and revealed that the gang's First Generation was actually founded by Sano Shinichiro, Mikey's late older brother.

Defiance In The Face Of Despair

Taiju provided a detailed account of Kisaki's staged demise, emphasizing that with Mikey's apparent death, Izana had claimed the true leadership of Toman. Taiju argued that Mikey placed even more trust in Izana than in Draken. Takemichi expressed disbelief at this revelation, but before he could respond, Hajime Kokonoi and Seishu Inui, who were once Taiju's associates but now served Toman, stormed into the restaurant accompanied by a sizable contingent of soldiers. They announced their mission to apprehend Taiju as per their orders.

Excited for his first real fight in a while, Taiju urged Takemichi and Naoto to escape through the back door and seek revenge for Hakkai's death. Meanwhile, Takemichi and Naoto fled from the chaotic scene in the restaurant, desperately trying to save themselves. However, as Takemichi considered how to gather more information about the Kanto Incident, he suddenly halted and turned back towards the restaurant, realizing that it held the key to his inquiries.

Just as he made this decision, his progress was abruptly halted by the sight of a gun pointed at him from an alley. Emerging from the shadows, Kisaki appeared, confirming Taiju and Naoto's suspicions that he was alive and well. Understanding the imminent danger, Naoto selflessly threw himself in front of Kisaki's bullet, sacrificing himself to save Takemichi. As Naoto lay bleeding on the ground, Izana stepped forward from behind Kisaki and scolded him for shooting Naoto, as he had already taken ownership of the young man's life.

On encountering Takemichi, Izana informed him about his involvement in the killing of "his Mikey" - a term that puzzled Takemichi. Izana then summoned Kakucho, who disregarded his old friend's pleas and shot Takemichi with his weapon. As the Toman trio left the scene, with Kisaki observing from the sidelines, Naoto, now in critical condition, expressed his initial perception of Takemichi as a pathetic loser when they first met in the present. However, this opinion quickly changed when he witnessed Takemichi's unwavering determination and noble ideals, regarding him as a hero.

With tears in his eyes and desperate, Takemichi clutched Naoto's hand, believing it would be their final moment together. He declared that he would never give up and would succeed at any cost. Just as the music soared and the electricity crackled, indicating another leap through time, silence fell, and the end credits rolled, concluding the episode with great impact. Takemichi embarks on another journey into the past, knowing that with Naoto on the brink of death, he may not be able to return to the present unless he corrects the events of the past. The intense cliffhanger ending heightens the tension and raises the stakes, leaving many fans of the anime wondering how Toman's "crybaby hero" can overcome the seemingly insurmountable odds before him.
