TJ Holmes and Amy Robach faced a relationship fallout, leading to a vulnerable phase Reports suggest TJ turned to alcohol and edibles to cope

In the debut episode of their new podcast, "Amy & T.J.," T.J. Holmes and Amy Robach discussed the aftermath of their affair, describing it as a "dark" time. The former GMA3 coanchors discussed the cheating scandal on the Tuesday, December 5 episode, recalling how they had to work with a "crisis management team" when news of their relationship outside of the office broke in late 2022. Robach, 50, told Holmes, 46, "We got to a point where you were in a pretty dark spot, a pretty dark space."

"I didn't even realize things had taken such a turn," Holmes admitted. He added that Robach was "receiving messages from me that were in the past tense" at the time. "I'm not sure where my head was," he said. When Holmes mentioned that Robach "had to do a wellness check" on him, she responded, "That's a very, very understated way of putting it."

Robach recalled receiving an apologetic text from Holmes the day after the scandal erupted. He had written, "You were the love of my life. I'm so sorry this has happened."

The use of past tense raised red flags for Robach. She responded, "You're scaring me. Please tell me you're OK." But there was no response. She called and FaceTimed him, but he did not answer any of her attempts to reach out.

Robach went into a state of panic and turned to her parents for help when she feared that something had happened to Holmes. Upon arriving at his apartment building, she found him in a disturbing state and was deeply afraid for his well-being.

Holmes admitted to starting to drink vodka as soon as he finished work that morning and continued for several hours. He also confessed to consuming an unknown number of weed edibles, a combination that Robach described as "terrifying."

In another part of the podcast, Robach shared her own mental health challenges.

"I am a 10-year breast cancer survivor and used to consider 2013 the most difficult year of my life. However, in 2022, I experienced even darker moments where I felt that I didn't want to live anymore. This was a new and overwhelming experience for me. The support and encouragement from my loved ones gave me strength during my battle with cancer. I found it unbearable to face the news and wanted an escape. This was a feeling I had never encountered before in my life."

Rumors about their relationship began in November 2022 when they were spotted together outside the workplace. At that time, Robach and Holmes were still married to Andrew Shue and Marilee Fiebig, respectively. They explained on the podcast that they were in the process of divorce when they became involved, but chose to keep it private.

ABC removed Holmes and Robach from Good Morning America following the scandal, and we reported in January that they were no longer with the network. Eva Pilgrim and DeMarco Morgan have taken over as GMA3 cohosts.

After divorcing their spouses, Robach and Holmes recently announced a partnership on a new project. They teased their podcast on Instagram with the caption, "How's this for instagram official? #silentnomore."
