Concert attendees frequently throw objects at musicians while they are performing, but Tim McGraw doesn't seem worried about his safety during his upcoming tour. "I hope I still have the agility to avoid and evade whatever comes my way," the 56-year-old country superstar told Entertainment Tonight on July 28, without making any additional safety arrangements.
McGraw, while expressing his refusal to implement extra security measures during his travels, strongly denounced the disturbing trend of individuals throwing objects at concerts. He characterized such behavior as utterly absurd, as it ultimately detracts from the enjoyment of the entire audience.
On Friday, McGraw revealed his highly anticipated Standing Room Only Tour alongside Carly Pearce. Commencing on March 14, 2024, the tour will commence in Jacksonville, Florida.
In recent months, rowdy concertgoers have become a major concern, despite McGraw's lack of worry about flying objects on stage. An incident in June involved Bebe Rexha, who had to receive stitches after a cell phone thrown by an audience member in New York City struck her on the head.
Nicolas Malvagna, the individual who threw the phone, was apprehended and faced assault charges following the incident. During his arraignment on June 20, Malvagna asserted that he was partaking in a TikTok trend in which supporters throw their phones at celebrities so that the star can capture a selfie with it before returning it. Released without bail, Malvagna is scheduled to appear in court again on Monday, July 31.
Several days later, while performing in Los Angeles, Ava Max encountered a concert attendee who climbed onto the stage and seemingly struck her in the face. Max, aged 29, took to Twitter and expressed, "He slapped me with such force that it caused a scratch on the inside of my eye. He will never be allowed into any of my shows again."
Pink, Kelsea Ballerini, Harry Styles, and Drake have also experienced instances of audience members throwing objects at their shows. Fortunately, not all of these incidents caused physical harm. Pink, 43, was bewildered when a fan threw their mother's ashes onto the stage, while Drake, 36, was amused by the size of a woman's 36G bra. Playfully, during a concert in Brooklyn on July 21, he quipped, "Locate this woman immediately." Following Drake holding the bra, Veronica Correia, the person who threw it, claimed that Playboy reached out to her after the video went viral. Speaking to TMZ on Tuesday, July 25, she revealed, "They stated, 'If you want to apply, we'll accept you right away.'" Furthermore, Correia shared that she applied, and Playboy accepted her application, expressing a desire to speak with her in the near future.
