Tim Allen is teaming up with ABC once again for a new comedy series, tentatively called Shifting Gears, after Last Man Standing was canceled. Allen first gained fame as Tim "The Toolman" Taylor on the ABC show Home Improvement, which ran for eight seasons from 1991 to 1999. He later starred in Last Man Standing on ABC for six seasons before it was canceled in 2017 and later revived by Fox for three more seasons.
Now, Allen is working on a third sitcom with ABC titled Shifting Gears. Deadline reports that the show is created by Mike Scully and Julie Thacker Sully from Duncanville, along with Last Man Standing executive producers Marty Adelstein, Becky Clements, Richard Baker, and Rick Messina. The cast for the new show has not been confirmed, with Allen being the only confirmed member so far.
Like Last Man Standing , Allen is also an executive producer on Shifting Gears .
Everything We Know About Shifting Gears
Dave Chappelle's guest appearance in Home Improvement - Everything We Know About Shifting Gears
Shifting Gears, written by the Scullys, will feature Allen as Matt, a headstrong widower who runs a shop specializing in classic car restoration. The story takes a twist when Matt's estranged daughter and her teenagers move in with him, sparking a new chapter of repair and rebuilding. Just like in Home Improvement and Last Man Standing, Allen will portray a fatherly figure with a knack for fixing things. In Last Man Standing, Allen's character, Mike Baxter, juggles his job at a sports store with his passion for DIY projects.
Allen is currently the star and executive producer of the Disney+ series, The Santa Clauses. The show finished airing its second season last December. There is no official confirmation yet on whether there will be a season 3 of The Santa Clauses. It is likely that the next season won't return until the 2025 holiday season. This means that The Santa Clauses and ABC's Shifting Gears, if it gets picked up, could potentially run at the same time. However, it is still uncertain if Shifting Gears will have the longevity of Home Improvement and Last Man Standing.
Home Improvement seasons 1-8 can be streamed on Hulu and The Roku Channel. Last Man Standing seasons 1-9 are also available for streaming on Hulu.

Editor's P/S:
I'm thrilled to learn that Tim Allen is returning to ABC with a new comedy series, "Shifting Gears." Allen has a proven track record of success with "Home Improvement" and "Last Man Standing," both of which were well-received by audiences. The premise of "Shifting Gears" sounds intriguing, with Allen playing a headstrong widower who runs a classic car restoration shop. The addition of his estranged daughter and her teenagers moving in with him adds a heartwarming element to the story.
I'm particularly excited about the fact that Allen is also an executive producer on "Shifting Gears." This gives him a greater creative control over the show, which bodes well for its quality. The cast for the new show has yet to be confirmed, but I'm confident that ABC will assemble a talented group of actors to support Allen. I can't wait to see what "Shifting Gears" has in store for us and I'm hopeful that it will be as successful as Allen's previous sitcoms.
