The Witcher Guru Himself Shares Invaluable Advice with Liam Hemsworth

Liam Hemsworth taps into the ultimate knowledge bank as he prepares to step into Henry Cavill's shoes as Geralt of Rivia in Netflix's The Witcher season 4

In preparation for The Witcher season 4, Liam Hemsworth is seeking valuable advice on how to embody the iconic character.

Fans of The Witcher book and video game series were surprised by Henry Cavill's decision to step down from his role. As a result, it was only logical for The Witcher production to bring in a new actor. Hemsworth had initially auditioned for the role of Geralt when casting was taking place. Rumor has it that he was the second choice, losing out to Cavill in the end. However, it appears that Hemsworth is not squandering his second opportunity. Taking inspiration from his predecessor, who was known for his extensive knowledge of The Witcher, Hemsworth is following in his footsteps.

According to cast members, Hemsworth is getting all his Witcher advice from one source. In an exclusive interview with GamesRadar+, Joey Batey revealed that he and his fellow castmates have decided to step back from offering guidance to Hemsworth regarding the material. "We have been communicating via email, exchanging our beloved quotes from the books and similar elements. I don't believe any of us are adequately qualified to provide advice on portraying Geralt, but he is fully immersing himself in the role. His training regimen is intense, and he has been voraciously devouring the books."

Cavill has openly expressed his love for gaming, but the creators of The Witcher series have consistently emphasized that they do not draw inspiration from CD Projekt Red's video games. Showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich has made it clear that they are solely influenced by Andrzej Sapkowski's fantasy novels. Producers have also confirmed that The Witcher season 3 will faithfully follow the events of the books.

Regardless of how fans may feel about Hemsworth replacing Cavill, the news is promising. Although season 2 of The Witcher improved upon season 1, there were still instances where the characters and storylines deviated from the original vision. While Hemsworth may not embody the Geralt fans have grown accustomed to over three seasons, there is no doubt that he is approaching the role with dedication. This is more than can be said for some members of The Witcher's writing team. Schmidt has faced criticism for her defensive stance towards the show's creative decisions. However, it appears that Hemsworth will possess a similar level of knowledge and perhaps even make a convincing Witcher.

The Witcher season 3, vol. 1 is currently airing on Netflix.
