The sole survivor of the Ohara Incident, Nico Robin possesses the rare ability to read the Poneglyphs. Her life was filled with turmoil before she joined the Straw Hats, as she was pursued by the World Government due to her knowledge of Ohara's scholars' research. Throughout her childhood and youth, Robin constantly found herself on the run, betrayed by those she sought refuge with, causing her to lose trust in others. Eventually, she found some stability with Baroque Works, where she served as the second-in-command to Sir Crocodile, using the alias Miss All Sunday.
A significant aspect of Robin's journey has been her quest to reclaim the sense of family she lost when Ohara was destroyed and her mother, Nico Olivia, passed away. Having a bounty on her head since childhood and having to survive on her own in a harsh world at a young age, Robin relied on the power of the Hana Hana no Mi, which greatly enhanced her combat abilities. After Baroque Works disbanded and Crocodile was defeated, Robin joined the Straw Hats as their sixth member, finally experiencing the feeling of belonging to a family again. However, her happiness was short-lived as her past caught up with her in Water 7, leading to one of the most intense story arcs in the series. Despite nearly leaving the crew after being captured by CP9, Robin was embraced and welcomed back wholeheartedly, becoming an essential part of the group's mission to decode the Poneglyphs and uncover the legendary treasure at the center of One Piece.
The Tragedy Of Ohara
Robin's early years were spent in the Library of Ohara, where she was encouraged by Professor Clover to pursue her interest in archeology. However, she faced verbal and physical abuse from her aunt and was ostracized by the other children due to her unique Devil Fruit abilities. When she declared her intention to study the Poneglyphs and uncover the true history of the Void Century, Clover admonished her, fearing that she would follow the same path as her mother, Nico Olvia. It was during this time that Robin found solace with Vice Admiral Jaguar D. Saul, a friend of her mother's, who had washed ashore on the island. Saul warned Robin about the impending attack on Ohara and urged her to flee as soon as possible. Sadly, Robin and her mother missed each other during their escape attempts. The tragic events that followed, including the death of Professor Clover and the capture of Olvia, came to be known as the Tragedy of Ohara. Although Robin finally reunited with her mother, their happiness was short-lived as Olvia urged Saul to take Robin and escape from the advancing Marine battleships. Saul took Robin to his boat, but they were confronted by Kuzan, who froze Saul but allowed Robin to escape. With tears in her eyes, Robin said goodbye to her home and fled Ohara. Losing her only family had a profound impact on Robin's life for years to come.
The Demon Of Ohara
Robin, known as the "Demon of Ohara," was hunted by the World Government after they discovered her ability to decipher the Poneglyphs. Betrayed by those she once trusted, she harbored a deep resentment towards the World Government and longed for a place where she could find trust and security. Over time, she grew cautious of those who sought to use her for their own gain and would double-cross them before they could exploit her abilities.
Seeking refuge in the Grand Line after leaving the West Blue, Robin encountered Sir Crocodile, one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea. Recognizing her value in deciphering the Poneglyphs, Crocodile recruited her into Baroque Works, an organization he created to destabilize and seize control of the Arabasta Kingdom. Within Baroque Works, Robin found solace from the Marines and spent four years working for Crocodile, ultimately rising to a position of high authority within the organization.
Finding Home With The Straw Hats
Robin's transformation from being an antagonist to a valued member of the Straw Hats began when she joined them after Luffy's victory over Crocodile. She accompanied the crew on their journey to Jaya and Skypiea. However, when they arrived at Water 7, her troubled past resurfaced. Captured by CP9 agents under the orders of Spandam, Robin was taken to Enies Lobby to be interrogated about the whereabouts of the Ancient Weapon Pluton. In response, Luffy and the Straw Hats launched a daring mission to rescue her, declaring war on the World Government. In a fierce battle, Luffy and his crew defeated the CP9 agents, led by Rob Lucci, and saved Robin, proving to her that she had a permanent place among the Straw Hats.
This pivotal event allowed Robin to finally find the family she had longed for. She dedicated herself to helping Luffy achieve his goal of becoming the Pirate King, while also pursuing her own dream of unraveling the true history of the world. Throughout subsequent arcs, Robin has embraced her role as the crew's archeologist, confronting her trauma from the fall of Ohara. As time has passed, she has shed her stoic demeanor from before the time skip, adopting a more playful and caring persona, all while remaining fiercely loyal to Luffy and her fellow crewmates above all else.
