Baldur's Gate 3 may pose a challenge for new players, but there are effective strategies to make tough fights a breeze. By Act 3, players should have access to top-notch builds that equip them with the necessary tools to take on endgame bosses. However, there's a spell that should not be underestimated. Although it may be difficult to acquire, it grants access to one of the game's most overpowered abilities.
Baldur's Gate 3 offers valuable endgame loot, including the Helldusk Armor set, obtained through risky quests. These risks are well-rewarded, as many late-game items significantly impact the final battles. Artistry of War is a spell that players should not overlook, as it can be easily missed or wasted if not used carefully, potentially depriving them of a powerful ability to dispatch endgame foes, especially for Wizards.
Baldur's Gate 3 Players Should Make Good Use of the Artistry of War Spell
Artistry of War, an Evocation Spell at Level 5, summons apparitions of six skilled strategists capable of individually attacking targets, dealing 2d6 + 6 Force damage each. This spell serves as an enhanced rendition of the classic Magic Missile spell, enabling the ability to strike multiple targets or repeatedly target a single entity. It proves to be the ideal spell for confronting overwhelming battles.
However, a drawback of Artistry of War lies in its limited accessibility. It is exclusively available as a single-use scroll, resulting in its immediate consumption after casting.
Fortunately, players possess the opportunity to bypass this restriction through the Wizard class's proficiency in acquiring spells from scrolls. By inscribing the scroll into their personal book, players can permanently access Artistry of War. For instance, Gale in Baldur's Gate 3 can pay a gold fee to learn this spell, transforming it into Curriculum of Strategy: Artistry of War upon successful acquisition. Henceforth, players can utilize this spell consistently by replenishing their spell slots through rest or the employment of the Spell Slot Restoration ability.
To find the Artistry of War scroll, one must undertake a perilous task of descending into the vault beneath Sorcerous Sundries, a shop located in the Lower City of Act 3. Players who are following Gale's Wizard of Waterdeep questline will have to go down there anyway to acquire the Annals of Karsus for the Wizard. Within the Sorcerous Sundries Vault, there is a lockpickable case containing a book named "The Red Knight's Final Strategem." Reading this book will grant the player the Artistry of War scroll.
Equipped with the Artistry of War spell, players will be well-prepared to face the battles that await in Baldur's Gate 3's third act, where hordes of enemies often need to be defeated. This spell proves especially useful when fighting bosses like Cazador, Raphael, and Sarevok, as it can swiftly dispatch their powerful reinforcements before they overwhelm the player and their party. Artistry of War is one of the most potent scrolls in Baldur's Gate 3, so it is advisable for players to ensure that their Wizard learns it, enabling them to utilize its power in multiple battles beyond the scroll's single-use.
Baldur's Gate 3 is available now on PC and PS5, with an Xbox Series X/S version also in development.
