The NFL has joined the conversation and is defending its increased coverage of Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift as their romance continues to dominate the headlines.
In a statement to People on October 4th, the NFL explained, "We regularly update our bios and profile imagery to reflect current events in and around our games, as well as cultural phenomena. The news regarding Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce has become a significant cultural moment that we have actively embraced in real-time. It represents the convergence of sports and entertainment, and we have witnessed a remarkable amount of positivity surrounding the sport as a result."
The league responded by stating that their content primarily revolves around the game, players, and various other endeavors, such as their Toy Story Funday Football alt-cast, international games, and more. These remarks from the NFL were made in relation to Kelce's allegations that the league's TV and social media coverage excessively focuses on his connection with Swift, who attended a Kansas City Chiefs game for the first time on September 24.
"I find it enjoyable when they display the presence of all the individuals attending the game," Travis shared with his brother, Jason Kelce, during the latest episode of their podcast titled "New Heights." He further added, "It adds an extra layer to the atmosphere and enhances the viewing experience. However, I believe they may be going a bit overboard with it, especially in my case. I think it's their way of livening things up."
Later, Travis, who serves as a tight end for the Chiefs, expressed his belief that the presence of celebrities at football games should not be centered around being showcased on TV. On the other hand, Jason, who plays for the Philadelphia Eagles, contended that the NFL is not accustomed to having celebrities attend their games.
Jason, who is 35 years old, explained that basketball has a better approach to showcasing celebrities at games compared to the NFL. He highlighted that basketball briefly shows celebrities on the court side, while the NFL tends to excessively focus on A-list celebrities in attendance. Jason suggested that the NFL should show celebrities once and provide a short clip, without going overboard.
Last month, when Travis started dating Swift, it initially surprised people because the football player hinted that he had been in contact with the Grammy winner. Travis had previously tried to give Swift a friendship bracelet with his number on it during her Kansas City Eras Tour performance over the summer, but she rejected his gesture.
While Swift and Travis have not publicly confirmed the details of their relationship, speculation grew when Swift was seen attending the September 24 Chiefs game in the VIP Suite alongside Travis’ mother, Donna Kelce.
The week after, Swift made a grand appearance at the Chiefs’ game against the New York Jets on October 1 in New York City, surrounded by her famous friends such as Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, Sabrina Carpenter, Sophie Turner, and Hugh Jackman.
"New York welcomes you, @taylorswift13," tweeted the NFL on Sunday, sharing a video of Swift entering a suite at MetLife Stadium.
Throughout the two-hour sporting event, Swift was frequently shown on camera, particularly after Travis was captured on the field. "With @TaylorSwift13 in attendance, the @Chiefs are now 2-0. @NextGenStats," tweeted the league following Sunday's victory.
According to an exclusive source, Swift was described as "low-key and low-maintenance" while she supported Travis from the box after the game. Another insider revealed that Taylor has made the decision to no longer hide and is determined to be her authentic self while enjoying life.
Although Swift and Travis are still in the early stages of their relationship, the second source disclosed that Taylor is thoroughly enjoying the process of getting to know him. They are taking things one day at a time, but she has high hopes for their future together. Taylor appreciates that Travis is a normal and genuinely kind person, unaffected by fame. Additionally, she finds him attractive.
A third source noted that Travis feels similar about the “Exile” singer. “Travis is completely smitten,” the insider told Us.
