Dragon Age: Dreadwolf, one of the most highly anticipated fantasy RPG titles in gaming, has been in development for years. Fortunately, it recently entered its alpha phase, suggesting that a release date may be on the horizon. Although there is still some waiting to be done, it seems that the perfect release window for Dragon Age: Dreadwolf is approaching.
Throughout the game's development journey, there have been several changes within the company. Initially known as Joplin and starting development in 2015, the original version of Dragon Age: Dreadwolf was discontinued by EA and BioWare in late 2017 due to its perceived lack of potential as a live service game. Interestingly, the current version of the game reportedly no longer includes this aspect. Regardless, the current project, initially named Project Morrison and started in 2018, has since transformed into the Dragon Age: Dreadwolf that fans catch glimpses of today. While it has been a long time coming, the ideal release window for the next installment in the franchise would be November 2024, aligning with a significant date for the series.
Why November 2024 Would Be a Great Release Window for Dragon Age: Dreadwolf
The game's potential release in November 2024 aligns perfectly with both the ten-year anniversary of the Dragon Age: Inquisition release and the fifteenth birthday of the Dragon Age franchise, specifically with Dragon Age: Origins. This release would not only fulfill fans' long-standing anticipation but also serve as a significant event to celebrate the series' longevity, particularly with the inclusion of Dreadwolf. Rather than simply being a side project, the game's eventual release as an anniversary celebration would be highly desired by fans who have been eagerly awaiting its arrival for the past decade. It's important to note, however, that BioWare has yet to provide a definitive release period despite the numerous trailers and updates for Dragon Age: Dreadwolf.
Fortunately, there are indications pointing towards a potential late 2024 release. Earlier this year, a report surfaced shedding light on the expected release timeline for Dragon Age: Dreadwolf. Insider Jeff Grubb revealed that the current internal release window is Summer 2024 at the earliest, but it could potentially be postponed to 2025. Given the shifting release dates based on previous reports, a release in late 2024 would be an ideal compromise between Summer 2024 and 2025, providing an excellent opportunity to celebrate the aforementioned anniversary.
November has traditionally been a popular month for video game releases, and this is particularly true for the Dragon Age franchise. The first installment, Dragon Age: Origins, was released in November 2009 and received high praise from both gamers and critics, establishing it as one of BioWare's top-selling games. Despite some shortcomings, its sequels, Dragon Age 2 and DA: Inquisition, built upon the foundations laid by Origins. Notably, Inquisition, like its predecessor, was also released in November (2014), making it desirable for the franchise to continue this trend. Moreover, such a release schedule would coincide with the fan-created Dragon Age Day, celebrated on December 4.
As for the highly anticipated release of Dragon Age: Dreadwolf, it remains uncertain whether it will coincide with the franchise's fifteenth anniversary. Fans will have to exercise patience and wait for BioWare's official announcement. While a November 2024 release seems plausible and would be a fitting celebration after a long wait, unforeseen events and developments may alter these plans.
