Devil Fruits in the world of One Piece are a remarkable source of power. Right from the beginning of the story, they serve as the primary power system, despite the presence of other abilities like Haki. These mystical fruits bestow a range of abilities upon those who consume them, but at the cost of losing the ability to swim.
Devil Fruits come into existence through the desires and wishes of individuals, providing a unique perspective on the world's evolution. Each and every Devil Fruit in One Piece exists because someone desired it. For instance, the series' protagonist, Luffy, possesses the Gomu Gomu no Mi, and other members of the Straw Hat Pirates also have their own Devil Fruit powers. Moreover, Oda has now unveiled the powers he would grant to those in the Straw Hat Crew who do not possess Devil Fruits.
The Devil Fruit Users Of The Straw Hat Pirates
The Straw Hat Pirates are a formidable group, with each member possessing their own distinctive fighting style and relying on their Devil Fruit abilities. Currently, four members of the crew are Devil Fruit users, starting with their captain, Monkey D. Luffy. Luffy possesses the powerful Mythical Zoan Devil Fruit, known as the Gomu Gomu no Mi, although it is classified as a Paramecia in the Book of Devil Fruits due to the World Government's attempts to conceal its existence.
Following Luffy, more Devil Fruit users joined the Straw Hat Pirates, starting with Chopper. Chopper, a reindeer with the Zoan-type Hito Hito no Mi, was introduced during the Drum Island arc. His Devil Fruit allows him to transform into both a human and a human-reindeer hybrid. Chopper has thoroughly explored the capabilities of his Devil Fruit, resulting in unique and potent transformations. Despite not being considered one of the world's strongest fruits, this Devil Fruit has greatly enhanced Chopper's power.
After Chopper, the Straw Hat Pirates welcomed Nico Robin, who became a member of the crew following the events in the Arabasta arc. With the Paramecia type Devil Fruit Hana Hana no Mi, Robin possesses the unique ability to sprout any body part from any location. This includes the capability to sprout her entire body, which proves to be incredibly perilous as she can shatter the bones of her adversaries or inflict damage upon them from within their own bodies.
Following Robin, the crew gained another Devil Fruit user in the form of Brook during the Thriller Bark arc. Despite being a human who consumed the Yomi Yomi no Mi, granting him the ability to resurrect from the afterlife, Brook now exists as a skeletal being due to unrelated circumstances regarding his fruit. Nonetheless, Brook exhibits formidable power and has become an integral member of the crew over the course of their adventures. His Devil Fruit additionally permits him to summon the chilling cold of the underworld, imparting it into his attacks.
Clearly, all the Devil Fruit users in the Straw Hat Pirates are incredibly special. In one of his SBS corners, Oda has now taken the opportunity to assign Devil Fruit powers to the non-fruit users of the Straw Hat Pirates. When questioned about Zoro, Nami, Usopp, Sanji, and Franky's Devil Fruit abilities, Oda's choices were truly intriguing.
The Devil Fruit Powers Of The Remaining Straw Hat Pirates
When inquired about the potential Devil Fruit abilities of Zoro, Nami, Usopp, Sanji, and Franky, Oda readily divulged his well-thought-out choices. These selected Devil Fruits perfectly align with the characters' personalities, providing both excitement and amusement. Zoro, in particular, would be bestowed with the Uo Uo no Mi, Model: Seiryuu, a Devil Fruit already demonstrated to possess immense power by Kaido himself.
Oda explained that rather than Zoro consuming the Devil Fruit, he would have one of his swords consume it. In the One Piece series, fans have witnessed weapons consuming various types of Devil Fruits, so this would not be an exception. It is likely that Zoro's sword, the Wado Ichimonji, would gain immense power from consuming this particular Devil Fruit.
As for Nami, she would receive the Devil Fruit known as the Goro Goro no Mi, which belongs to Enel. This Logia type Devil Fruit grants the user the ability to transform into electricity and manipulate it as desired. Given Nami's existing powers of weather manipulation, this Devil Fruit would be a perfect match for her. Naturally, it would make her virtually unstoppable, with Luffy becoming her natural adversary.
Meanwhile, Usopp would acquire the Poke Poke no Mi, a Devil Fruit that may not be widely known to fans but is currently possessed by Blamenco of the Whitebeard Pirates. This unique Paramecia type Devil Fruit enables the user to conveniently store items within pockets located inside their own body. Considering Usopp's heavy reliance on various accessories and attachments during his battles, this Devil Fruit would undeniably be a perfect match for him. His vast assortment of weapons, including the Kuro Kabuto, Usopp Hammer, and Dials, among other things, could all be efficiently stored within one of his pockets.
At the same time, Sanji would be granted the Sui Sui no Mi, another Paramecia type Devil Fruit currently in possession of Senor Pink from the Donquixote Family. This Devil Fruit grants Pink the ability to freely swim through the ground and walls. Given that Sanji is recognized as the Straw Hat Pirates' most skilled swimmer following Jinbe, this Devil Fruit would undoubtedly make him unstoppable. Furthermore, it would greatly enhance Sanji's prowess in stealth-based operations, considering his exceptional talent in that particular field.
Franky, the shipwright and one of the strongest fighters in the Straw Hat Crew, is the only member who does not possess a Devil Fruit power. If he were to obtain one, it would be the Buki Buki no Mi, currently owned by Baby 5 of the Donquixote Pirates. This particular Devil Fruit enables its user to transform into various weapons during combat, which would greatly complement Franky's arsenal of weapons and cyborg abilities.
Although the potential of these powers is noteworthy, it is highly unlikely for any member of the Straw Hat Pirates to acquire and consume a Devil Fruit. Oda, the creator, has already established a set number of Devil Fruit users within the crew, and it is unlikely to change. However, it is still enjoyable for fans to speculate and imagine the preferred Devil Fruit powers for each member of the crew.
