Technical Machines (TMs) in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet allow trainers to teach Pokemon moves they normally cannot learn through leveling up. These items have been a staple in the Pokemon franchise since its inception and continue to play a role in the games. Unlike in previous games, TMs in Scarlet/Violet can be crafted using League Points (LP) and Pokemon Materials/Resources, providing trainers with the opportunity to have multiple copies of the same TM. Prior to the release of The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero, the expansion pass for Scarlet/Violet, there were a total of 171 TMs available for players to find, unlock, and craft. With the addition of the Teal Mask part 1 expansion, the number of TMs increases to 201. To obtain these TMs, players will need to catch or battle the Pokemon inhabiting the Kitakami region.
Where to Buy & Craft TMs in Scarlet/Violet
In Scarlet/Violet, TM cannot be purchased using money. Instead, League Points (LP) are used to buy them from the TM Machine at the PokeCenters. There are several methods to acquire League Points, including participating in Tera Raids or interacting with the Tera Crystals in the Paldea/Kitakami area.
Defeating Team Star Bosses during "Starfall Street" main quest.
Exchanging materials at the TM Machine.
Capturing or overcoming untamed Tera Pokemon (i.e., Pokemon adorned with a golden aura).
Upon encountering Koraidon/Miraidon, trainers receive access to the TM Machine. However, the ability to create numerous TMs remains limited. Trainers must acquire particular Pokemon materials corresponding to their desired TMs and ensure an ample supply of LP. Certain TMs can only be obtained by progressing through the main quests "Starfall Street" and "Victory Road."
Those who have purchased the DLC can visit Kitakami once they have initiated the Treasure Hunt. Out of the 30 new TMs introduced in Scarlet/Violet, nearly all of them require materials from Pokemon that are exclusively found in Kitakami (such as Poochyena). As these materials are obtained by defeating or capturing Pokemon, trainers who desire to utilize TM172-TM201 will require the expansion pass.
A convenient method for farming materials is to utilize the Auto-Battle function (activated by pressing the R-button). If the leading Pokemon in the party is at a higher level and/or possesses a Type advantage, they can easily defeat multiple opponents in a single encounter.
All New TMs & How to Craft Them in The Teal Mask
To easily create a TM, players can choose the option "I want a TM made" on the TM Machine. If they have sufficient materials and LP, a Craftable message will appear in green below the TM image. Additionally, players can indicate their interest in a TM by tapping the (+) button. Once enough materials are acquired, a pop-up menu will appear on the right side of the screen, stating "You've got everything you need to make a TM in your watch list!" To remove a TM from the "mark" list, simply hover over the TM in the TM Machine and press the (+) button to toggle it off. Allow us to provide you with comprehensive information about the TMs exclusive to the Teal Mask.
