In the world of Genshin Impact, known as Teyvat, there are fascinating creatures that inhabit the land. These creatures are crucial as they drop unique items required to enhance characters and weapons. Among them are the Vishap family, who were once the dominant race in Teyvat until humans arrived.
With the exception of certain boss variants, all types of Vishaps drop Bone Shards, which are essential for ascending certain weapons. This guide will provide information on the locations of all respawning Vishaps and how to effectively farm Bone Shards in Genshin Impact.
At higher levels, Vishaps can drop better and better items, as shown here:
Any level: Fragile Bone Shard
Level 40+: Sturdy Bone Shard
Level 60+: Fossilized Bone Shard
Lower-level items can, of course, be crafted into higher-levels at a 3:1 ratio.
Vishap Locations in Liyue
Most Vishaps, especially Geovishaps, are commonly found in Liyue. While the majority of them are the quicker-moving Hatchlings, there are also a few larger and fully developed Geovishaps.
Apart from the Bone Shards, which are not dropped by Azhdaha and the Primo Geovishap boss, these two are part of the Vishap family. The Primo Geovishap, for instance, drops a boss item called Juvenile Jade, while Azhdaha is encountered in a weekly trounce domain. If you require materials from the Primo Geovishap to enhance characters like Hu Tao, Yanfei, or Xiao, you can refer to our guide here. Similarly, for defeating Azhdaha and obtaining talent materials utilized by Ayaka, Yelan, and others, check out our guide here.
Liyue: Lumberpick Valley and The Chasm Surface
In the southwestern region of Liyue, one can discover several Vishap Hatchlings situated in Lumberpick Valley, accompanied by a fully-grown Geovishap concealed within a cave on the surface of the Chasm. These four Hatchlings can be conveniently reached by utilizing the teleport waypoint in Lumberpick Valley and venturing towards the northwest.
The fully grown Geovishap located in Fuao Vale can be reached by teleporting to the nearby waypoint and proceeding ahead on the cart tracks into the cavern. Remove the spiderwebs along the way and proceed further into a larger chamber where the Geovishap can be easily seen on the left side, slightly below the tracks.
Head through here!
Liyue: Tianqiu Valley
Heading north from there, towards Tianqiu Valley, players will discover an area teeming with Vishaps. In this vicinity, there is a fully grown Geovishap positioned on the southern side of the small water body, accompanied by six rambunctious Hatchlings. The Hatchlings in the southeastern region can be found atop the adjacent hills.
To reach all of the Vishaps, players can select either of the teleport waypoints depicted in the image above and proceed in a clockwise direction.
Liyue: Dunyu Ruins/Lisha
There are two Geovishap Hatchlings and one mature Geovishap located just east of the Dunyu Ruins.
To efficiently farm all three, it is recommended to teleport twice. First, teleport to the west to defeat the Hatchling there, and then teleport again to fight the remaining two. This is because the teleport waypoint is situated on top of a cliff, which is between the west Hatchling and the mature Geovishap. This way, you avoid unnecessary climbing regardless of which one you visit first. Once one of them is dealt with, it is easier to teleport once again. The middle Hatchling is located on top of the cliff and can be confronted at any time.
The mature Geovishap can be located quite easily, but if you're facing any difficulties, keep in mind that it is situated between two cliff faces. Just to the north of the waypoint, you will come across a set of ruins with a pathway that resembles a runway, accompanied by a sharp drop-off.
Follow this "runway" in a straight line and it'll take you right down to the Vishap with a short glide.
Liyue: Bishui Plain
In Dihua Marsh, several Hatchlings can be found scattered along the expansive body of water. There isn't a single waypoint that leads to all four Hatchlings since they are located quite far apart. However, each Hatchling can be easily reached from its own closest waypoint.
When heading towards the Hatchling in the northwest, be cautious of the Geo Lawachurl along the way. Additionally, upon arriving at the waypoint, avoid picking the Mint directly below your feet, as it is actually a Whopperflower.
The northeast Hatchling by Stone Gate is conveniently located at ground level, rather than being perched atop the treacherous cliffs in the vicinity. It is situated at a fairly equal distance between the two waypoints, making either one a suitable choice.
Liyue: Northwest Liyue/Minlin
The northwest portion of Liyue that comprises Mt. Aocang and Huaguang Stone Forest is home to a few Vishaps, as well.
To reach one Hatchling, glide down from the waypoint on top of Mt. Hulao.
To reach one mature Geovishap and two Hatchlings, head west from the Clear Pool and Mountain Cavern domain.
Some are slightly more complicated to locate, but not difficult. The ones marked in green (with an X) on the image are actually situated in a cave beneath Mt. Aocang. Simply teleport to the waypoint on top of the mountain, then descend to the cave's bottom on the west side. It is easily recognizable and contains a Geovishap. The Hatchling will only appear upon entering the cave.
The final Vishap in this region is a fully grown one located just to the east of Mt. Aocang. Starting from the same waypoint, proceed in a northeast direction across the level peak of the mountain that encompasses the pool of water and the entrance to the dwelling of the Adeptus. Towards the eastern boundary of this area, there is a rocky formation that protrudes slightly, but if you continue past it to a lower level, you will encounter a mature Geovishap.
Liyue: Nantianmen
The area Azhdaha is found in is called Nantianmen, and there are a few lower-level Vishaps around to be found.
To reach the mature Geovishap shown in the bottom-left portion of the image, you can teleport to the circled waypoint and cross the river. However, accessing the Geovishap and Hatchling just to the right of that waypoint (highlighted in blue with stars) is not as straightforward as it appears on the 2D map. There is a steep cliff (indicated by the yellow line labeled "Cliff line") that makes climbing difficult. It is actually much easier to approach them from the waypoint located on top of the mountain.
From the same mountain waypoint, continue heading east to find another Geovishap located on lower ground.
Liyue: Mingyun Village/Dragonspine Foothills
Mingyun Village, located at the western base of Dragonspine, is home to three playful Hatchlings that can be seen frolicking around. Additionally, nestled to the north, near the Ridge Watch domain, another Hatchling can be found joining their company.
Liyue: Guyun Stone Forest
To reach the final Vishap in Liyue, a solitary Hatchling hidden on a tiny island in Guyun Stone Forest, you have two options:
Option 1: Teleport to the Domain of Guyun, exit the cavern, and proceed south along a sandbar.
Option 2: Teleport to the Domain of Guyun, make your way out of the cavern, and follow the sandbar in a southerly direction.
Teleport to the Domain of Guyun and proceed out of the cavern towards the adjacent extensive island, which features a Windmill Mechanism. Utilize Anemo to activate the mechanism and gracefully glide across to the Hatchling island.
Liyue: The Chasm Underground
Underground in the Chasm, there are a few more Geovishaps that can be found. All three area mature Geovishaps.
The Chasm: Ad-Hoc Main Tunnel
Located close to the entrance of the Chasm, you'll find a U-shaped tunnel below this waypoint. This tunnel has two entrances, with the first one positioned towards the western side. Interestingly, this is also where you can encounter Skeld the Shadowy Husk.
To enter this room, you will require the Miner's Key, after which you can utilize a lever to unlock a gate that leads to the subsequent tunnel. If you have not yet gained access to this area, we recommend trying the alternative entrance.
The other entrance is a bit more roundabout but not too hard. Head down to the lower level from the waypoint and look for a tunnel entrance with some orange stones around it.
Go inside that tunnel, and glide to the left, heading for a cliff edge around the corner.
If you need, use the Spoutrock for a boost to jump up.
Through this tunnel, a Geovishap can be found.
The Chasm: Main Mining Area
The next Geovishap is found in the Main Mining Area, again in a tunnel cave. This one is a bit easier to access, though.
Simply utilize the teleport waypoint located to the south of
The Chasm: Glowing Narrows
. Proceed in a northerly direction through the tunnel. Take caution as this Geovishap is influenced by Dark Mud, hence it is recommended to employ the Lumenstone Adjuvant in order to eliminate the Oozing Concretion and the opponent's buffs. The third and final option is also the simplest. All you need to do is teleport to the Glowing Narrows teleport waypoint, adjust your direction slightly to the left, and you will find the Geovishap right in front of you.
Enkanomiya Vishap Locations
Enkanomiya, being connected to the three realms and the Vishaps, naturally harbors a substantial population of Vishaps. However, unlike the dominant Geovishaps found in Liyue, Enkanomiya is home to various Bathysmal Vishap variants. These encompass Rimebiter Hatchlings (Cryo-aligned), Bolteater Hatchlings (Electro-aligned), as well as Primordial and Primordial Hatchlings (both Hydro-aligned).
Enkanomiya: The Serpent's Bowels
In Enkanomiya, much like Liyue, players will come across a formidable boss known as the Bathysmal Vishap Herd, or more commonly referred to as the Coral Defenders. What distinguishes this boss encounter is that it does not yield Bone Shards as drops. The Bathysmal Vishap Herd consists of two distinct creatures, namely the mature Bolteater and the mature Rimebiter. For those who challenge and defeat this unique boss duo, they will be rewarded with an exclusive ascension material called the Dragonheir's False Fin. This valuable item serves as a crucial component for ascending characters like Yae Miko and Shenhe.
Enkanomiya's main entrance, aptly named the Serpent's Bowels, is teeming with Vishap Hatchlings. Just a stone's throw away, near the waypoint, you'll stumble upon two Primordial Hatchlings. A few strides ahead, two more can be spotted. And if you traverse a short distance to the north, you'll come across a raised water pool hosting two Bolteater Hatchlings.
Enkanomiya: The Narrows
In the Narrows, seven Vishaps are present. Towards the northern edge of the "island," a fully grown Primordial Vishap resides along with two Hatchlings.
Towards the southern edge, there is a small pond positioned at the base of a waterfall, where a solitary Rimebiter Hatchling can be spotted. Exercise caution as a Ruin Guard patrols nearby.
Finally, proceed towards the northeastern part of the vicinity and descend to the pool, which is also recognized as one of the Emanant Skylights. Safeguarding this location are a fully-grown Primordial Vishap and two Hatchlings, although the Hatchlings only become visible when you approach them closely.
Enkanomiya: Evernight Temple
In the area of the Evernight Temple, there's another Emanant Skylight. Again, it's guarded by one mature Primordial Vishap and two Hatchlings that appear once you get close.
Enkanomiya: The Serpent's Heart
Enkanomiya: Vishap Research Lab
Serpent's Heart: An Encounter with Primordial VishapsSimilar to the preceding sections, within the Serpent's Heart lies an enchanting Emanant Skylight that is vigilantly protected by a trio of Primordial Vishaps. This formidable trio consists of a fully mature Vishap alongside two youthful Hatchlings. Initially, only the adult Vishap will be in view until your proximity prompts the appearance of the two Hatchlings.
The last Vishap discovered in Enkanomiya is a solitary Rimebiter Hatchling located on a concealed island. Unseen on the map, the Vishap Research Lab, a research facility, lies to the north of the Dainichi Mikoshi.
To easily access it, utilize a phase gate located on the northern edge of a small floating "island" next to the Dainichi Mikoshi. From the circled waypoint shown above, proceed northwards while staying close to the left side of the island in order to bypass the Geohide Lawachurl. Upon reaching the northernmost point of this section, you will come across a phase gate that transports you directly to the Lab's island. Simply follow the path where you arrive and you will reach the interior area, where a Rimebiter Hatchling awaits.
