The Real Reason behind Steven Yeun's Departure from Marvel's Thunderbolts

The Walking Dead star, Steven Yeun, clarifies his departure from Marvel's Thunderbolts, assuring fans of his continued interest in joining the superhero universe in the future

Steven Yeun, who received an Oscar nomination, has decided to leave his role in the Marvel movie Thunderbolts. The Minari and Walking Dead actor explained to Variety that the Hollywood strikes causing delays in production ultimately led to his departure from the project. "I think for me, time passing and things shifting kind of pulled me out of it," Yeun said.

He expressed his confidence in director Jake Schreier, stating that he believes Schreier will do an "outstanding job" with the movie. Yeun also mentioned that he dedicated a significant amount of time to crafting an email to the stakeholders, conveying "sincere apologies for having to step back."

Despite this experience, Yeun remains enthusiastic about the Marvel franchise and expressed his desire to be part of a future Marvel movie, stating, "I wanna do a Marvel movie." While he did not disclose which Marvel franchise he is interested in, he hinted, "I have some ideas."

"I believe it's premature to make that statement. I may have upset too many people by leaving, so for now I'll just say, 'Thank you for having me,'" he stated.

Although Marvel never made an official announcement about Yeun's involvement in Thunderbolts, various news outlets reported that he was set to portray Sentry in the film.

Yeun, known for voicing Invincible in the Prime Video animated show, Thunderbolts marks his latest comic book project. The actor also gained recognition for his roles in The Walking Dead and received an Academy Award nomination for his performance in Minari.

Marvel is set to release just one new movie this year, Deadpool 3. The floodgates are expected to open again in 2025 with the release of Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts, and Blade.

Editor's P/S

As a passionate fan of Steven Yeun and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, I was initially disappointed to learn about his departure from the upcoming Thunderbolts movie. However, after reading his explanation, I understand that the circumstances surrounding the production delays made it difficult for him to commit to the project. Yeun's professionalism and dedication to his craft are evident in the heartfelt email he sent to the stakeholders, expressing his sincere apologies for having to step back.

Despite this setback, I am excited to hear that Yeun remains enthusiastic about joining the Marvel franchise in the future. His talent and versatility as an actor would make him a valuable addition to any Marvel movie. I am particularly intrigued by his hint that he has some ideas about which franchise he would like to be a part of. As a fan, I can only hope that Marvel Studios will take notice of Yeun's interest and find a way to incorporate him into their future projects.
