Reports: Marvel's Thunderbolts Faces Loss as Steven Yeun Departs

Steven Yeun departs from Marvel's Thunderbolts, leaving fans curious about the reasons behind his exit Discover the truth behind Yeun's departure and the impact it will have on the highly anticipated superhero flick

Steven Yeun, known for his Oscar nominations, was originally slated to debut in the MCU in the 2025 film Thunderbolts. However, he has withdrawn from the project due to a scheduling conflict, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. Although Marvel never confirmed Yeun's role in the film, press reports indicated that he was set to play Sentry.

The release of Thunderbolts was initially scheduled for July 2024, but due to the Hollywood writer and actors' strikes in 2023, it was postponed to July 2025. These strikes caused production delays, leading to Yeun no longer being available to star in Thunderbolts. The cast for Thunderbolts includes Florence Pugh, David Harbour, Sebastian Stan, and Wyatt Russell, and filming has not yet begun.

Jake Schreier, famous for directing music videos for Kanye West and Justin Bieber, as well as the film Paper Towns, is set to direct Thunderbolts.

This wouldn't be Yeun's first foray into comic book projects, as he previously voiced Invincible in the animated series of the same name for Prime Video created by Robert Kirkman. Yeun is also known for his role on AMC's The Walking Dead and received an Academy Award nomination for his performance in Minari.

Marvel has just one new movie set for release this year--Deadpool 3. The floodgates will open again in 2025 with the release of Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts, and then Blade.

Editor's P/S

As a hard fan of Marvel movies, I was thrilled to hear about the upcoming Thunderbolts film and the casting of Steven Yeun. Yeun is a talented actor who has proven his range in various roles, from the intense drama of The Walking Dead to the heartwarming comedy of Minari. I was particularly excited to see him bring the Sentry to life on the big screen. The Sentry is a complex and powerful character, and I believe Yeun would have done an incredible job portraying him.

However, the news of Yeun's departure from the project is disappointing. Scheduling conflicts are understandable, but it's still a loss for the film and for fans who were looking forward to seeing Yeun in the MCU. I hope that Marvel can find a suitable replacement for Yeun and that the Thunderbolts film will still be able to deliver the exciting and action-packed experience that fans expect from Marvel movies.
