Immortals of Aveum combines the FPS and fantasy genres, offering gamers a cinematic shooter experience with a Doctor Strange vibe.
The Order of Immortals, led by General Kirkan, is a formidable collective of sorcerers dedicated to overthrowing Sandrakk, the Tyrant of Rasharn.
Besides their formidable prowess in combat, the Immortals also act as enforcers of social harmony in Lucium, playing a pivotal part in upholding the kingdom's strict social hierarchy.
Ascendant Studios’ spell-slinging shooter, Immortals of Aveum, left many gamers puzzled by its unique combination of the FPS and fantasy genres. However, as more information was unveiled, it became clear that the developers aimed to deliver a cinematic shooter experience, with a touch of Doctor Strange-inspired visuals. The focal point of the game revolves around the captivating tale of Lucium’s Order of Immortals, a thrilling amalgamation of magical warriors and skilled commandos whose mission is to defeat the Tyrant of Rasharn, Sandrakk.
Under the leadership of the determined General Kirkan, brilliantly portrayed by the seasoned TV, film, and video game actress Gina Torres, the Order of Immortals stands as an elite roster of formidable magic wielders dedicated to serving the kingdom of Lucium. Although the order once boasted thousands of members spanning various roles, from warriors to scholars, their numbers have dwindled drastically due to the unrelenting Everwar by the time Immortals of Aveum commences. Taking on the role of the novice Immortal named Jak, players will delve deeper into the order's history and questionable past as they progress through the game.
The Warriors of the Order of Immortals Are Just The Latest in a Long Lineage
When Jak joins the Immortals, they have been actively involved in Aveum's Everwar for more than a thousand years. This brutal conflict, characterized by constantly shifting alliances, has been fought by countless generations in the name of Aveum's five kingdoms. At the beginning of Immortals of Aveum, the primary players in the war are Lucium and Rasharn. Having defended Lucium against various threats throughout the centuries, the Order of Immortals now faces their biggest challenge as they confront Sandrakk and Rasharn's armies.
Jak, the protagonist, possesses the rare ability to control all three colors of Aveum's magic as a Triarch Magus. He is recruited into the Immortals after his home is attacked by the forces of Sandrakk. During this assault, Jak's powers as an Unforeseen unexpectedly and explosively manifest, catching the attention of General Kirkan. Kirkan sees Jak as a potential weapon in their ongoing battle against Sandrakk. Since the majority of Lucium's army consists of the Lightless, individuals with limited or no magical abilities, adding an Unforeseen like Jak to their forces greatly enhances the Order of Immortals' offensive capabilities.
The Immortals Are Lucium’s Last Line of Defense and Its Enforcers of Social Order
Rather than wearing robes and waving wands like in traditional fantasy games, the Order of Immortals behaves more like an elite special forces unit on the battlefield. They use mystical sigils, which are Aveum's magical take on traditional FPS firearms, to unleash devastating blasts of energy. With these abilities, the Immortals can confront overwhelming odds that would make regular Lightless soldiers retreat. However, their focus is not solely on winning battles.
In addition to using spells and ancient artifacts to combat the forces of Sandrakk, the Order of Immortals is responsible for upholding the rigid social structure of the kingdom of Lucium. The majority of the order's members, who are admired like religious figures by the Lightless, are recruited from Lucium's great houses. This recruitment system resembles the medieval feudalism of the real world. In the eyes of Lucium's elite, the order's primary duty is to maintain the social hierarchy by ensuring the noble lineages continue to produce magical offspring.
Immortals of Aveum offers a refreshing twist on familiar elements by combining the realms of fantasy and FPS games. The standout feature of the game lies in its Order of Immortals, who seamlessly combine mystical spell-casting skills with advanced special forces tactics.
You can enjoy Immortals of Aveum on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S platforms.
