The gaming industry has been incredibly busy in recent months, with major titles like Resident Evil 4 Remake, Hogwarts Legacy, Diablo 4, Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor all being released in the first half of 2023. However, the release of Final Fantasy 16 has started to calm things down a bit. This break is expected to last for about a month, as August brings in another wave of highly anticipated games, and Immortals of Aveum could be one of them.

Teased during The Game Awards in December of last year, Immortals of Aveum has been accompanied by numerous trailers, showcasing its captivating story through cinematic sequences and extensive gameplay demonstrations. But Immortals of Aveum offers more than just intense magic gameplay. It also boasts a compelling fantasy narrative, driven by a talented voice cast.

Set in the fantastical world of Aveum, Immortals of Aveum immerses players in the midst of an intense magical war. Ages ago, Aveum underwent a division into five unique kingdoms, separated by a circular abyss in its center. Throughout time, these kingdoms vied for control over Aveum's magic, resulting in the downfall of three of them. Presently, only Lucium and Rasharn remain, locked in a brutal conflict for dominion over the mystical powers.

In Immortals of Aveum, players assume the role of Jak, an exceptional magical warrior hailing from Lucium, bestowed with extraordinary abilities later in life as an Unforeseen. Voiced by acclaimed actor Darren Barnet, known for his performances in the Netflix holiday film Love Hard and the series Never Have I Ever, Jak takes center stage. Meanwhile, Barnet is set to star in Sony's forthcoming Gran Turismo movie, portraying a fictionalized version of Jann Mardenborough, a professional racecar driver transformed from a Gran Turismo player.

After harnessing his newfound abilities, Jak catches the attention of Lucium's esteemed Grand Magnus Kirkan, portrayed by the renowned Gina Torres. Recognized as one of the leading figures in the cast, Gina Torres has made notable appearances across various realms of entertainment, including movies, television shows, and video games. Some of her most remarkable performances include the roles of Zoe Washburne in both Firefly and Serenity, as well as Jessica Pearson in Suits. Moreover, Torres has also contributed her talent to the Matrix franchise. However, it is her portrayal of Destiny's Ikora Rey that truly resonates with gamers, as the character has made appearances in the original game, its sequel, and all subsequent expansions.

Throughout his journey, Jak encounters several companions, among whom Zendara holds significant importance. As a descendant of the Kalthus royal family, Zendara has forsaken her privileged lifestyle in pursuit of warfare, now taking on the role of Jak's field commander. The character of Zendara is voiced by Lily Cowles, previously known for her portrayal of Helen Park in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and her appearance in the horror film, Antebellum. Another valuable ally of Jak's is Devyn, a former scholar who has transitioned into a warrior. Voiced by Antonio Aakeel, who notably appeared in the 2018 live-action adaptation of Tomb Raider.

Luna will be portrayed by The Mother and The Orville's Yvonne Senat Jones, while Call of Duty: Vanguard and Teen Wolf's Steven Brand will take on the role of the villainous Sandrakk. Anna Brisbin from Bayonetta 3 will play Kenzie, and Nick Boraine from Modern Warfare will portray Thaddeus. Charles Halford, known for voicing Grodd in Injustice 2 and his appearance in Constantine, will play Rook, and Leonardo Nam from Westworld will appear as Selko. Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo from Devs and Alex Wyndham from Yellowjackets will also lend their voices to characters in the game.

Immortals of Aveum is set to be released on August 22 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X.
