Zac Brown has found himself knee deep in a public divorce.
The country singer and his estranged wife, Kelly Yazdi, announced in December 2023 that they were separating after four months of marriage.
"We are currently going through a divorce, but we still have mutual respect for each other," the couple told TMZ. "We wish each other well and will always cherish the time we spent together. We kindly ask for privacy as we deal with this personal matter."
Despite appearing united during their breakup, the situation changed dramatically when Brown, 45, filed a lawsuit against Yazdi, 33, in May 2024. Yazdi later dismissed it as a baseless complaint.
As their split continues to play out in the public eye, We is breaking down everything you need to know below:
How Did Zac and Kelly’s Love Story Begin?
It is unknown when the private couple began their relationship, but Yazdi was seen briefly in a Zac Brown Brand social media post for Brown's birthday in July 2022.
According to People magazine, Brown popped the question to Yazdi while they were on a trip to Hawaii in 2022. They were engaged for a year before tying the knot in a private ceremony in Georgia in August 2023.
Why Did Zac File a Temporary Restraining Order Against Kelly?
Zac Brown took legal action against his estranged wife, Kelly Yazdi, on May 17, 2024. He filed a lawsuit requesting her to remove an Instagram post. Brown, the frontman of Zac Brown Band, claims that Yazdi's post violated a confidentiality agreement she agreed to during their relationship. Court documents obtained by NBC News show that Brown is requesting an emergency temporary restraining order to have the social media post taken down.

Kelly's Response to the Lawsuit
Kelly responded to the lawsuit by stating that she was also committed to upholding the agreement to keep personal and business matters confidential. She emphasized the importance of mutual respect and maintaining privacy in moving forward from the situation.
Yazdi responded to Brown's lawsuit on social media, asserting her right to freely express herself through art and potentially speak about their pending divorce. In a message posted on Instagram on May 20, 2024, she stated her intention to address the allegations made against her regarding the publication of two poems on her personal account. Yazdi emphasized that the poems did not disclose any confidential information about Brown's business and questioned the court's authority to restrict her from discussing personal matters unrelated to her past employment with Zac Brown Collective, Inc.
Was Zac Brown Previously Married?
After being married to his first wife Shelly Brown for 12 years, Brown began a new relationship with Yazdi. The couple, who have five children together, announced their split in 2018.
In a statement to We, they expressed their gratitude for the journey they had shared and acknowledged that sometimes paths diverge. Despite the separation, they emphasized their deep love and respect for each other and their commitment to their family.
Although the decision to part ways was difficult, they viewed it as the next chapter in their lives. Moving forward with love, mutual respect, and care for each other, they recognized the changes ahead while affirming their dedication to their family.

Editor's P/S:
The public divorce between Zac Brown and Kelly Yazdi has taken a dramatic turn with Brown filing a lawsuit against his estranged wife. While the couple initially presented a united front, the situation has escalated, highlighting the complexities and challenges of navigating a high-profile split. The lawsuit, which alleges that Yazdi violated a confidentiality agreement, has raised questions about the boundaries of privacy and free expression in the aftermath of a marriage.
Brown's legal action is a reminder that even in private relationships, individuals may have differing perspectives on what constitutes confidential information. Yazdi's response, in which she asserts her right to express herself through art and discuss their pending divorce, underscores the tension between maintaining secrecy and protecting one's voice. The case also raises concerns about the potential for legal action to stifle open dialogue and personal expression. As the divorce proceedings continue, it will be important to balance the need for privacy with the rights of both parties to navigate this difficult time in their lives.
