The Last of Us Season 2 Delays Release Until After 2024

HBO confirms that highly anticipated Season 2 of The Last of Us adaptation won't be airing on small screens in 2024 Co-creator expects fans' reactions to be intense

HBO has officially announced that the highly praised video game adaptation The Last of Us Season 2 will not be airing on television until 2024. The first season of The Last of Us premiered on HBO on January 15 and received positive reviews and high ratings for the network.

The conclusion of Season 1 on March 12 marked the end of Joel and Ellie's journey in Naughty Dog's original The Last of Us game. Fans are eagerly anticipating the adaptation of The Last of Us Part II by the show's co-creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann. Unfortunately, HBO recently announced that the second season of The Last of Us will be delayed and won't be arriving within the next year.

The Last of Us Season 2 won’t be released in 2024

HBO formally revealed The Last of Us Season 2’s release window in its new “The One to Watch” promo video. And the bad news? It won’t drop until 2025.

The delay in the release of The Last of Us Season 2 may disappoint fans, but it is not unexpected. Production is not set to begin until early 2024, making a 2024 debut unlikely. Additionally, the cast for Season 2 is not yet complete, with the role of Abby still vacant. Kaitlyn Dever from No One Will Save You is rumored to be the frontrunner for the role, but this is currently just speculation.

The Last of Us co-creator anticipates reaction to Season 2

No matter who ends up getting the role, it is expected that Abby will stir up strong opinions similar to her character in the video game The Last of Us Season 2. Druckmann hinted at this in a recent interview, anticipating that the second season will provoke a wide range of emotional reactions.

During the interview, Druckmann, the co-director of the original games, ruled out the idea of introducing new characters from the show into The Last of Us Part II Remastered. He clarified that there are no plans to add them to the "No Return" mode, which features characters from Part II. Visit Dexerto for the latest news and updates on The Last of Us.

Editor's P/S

As a Gen Z fan of The Last of Us, I am disappointed but not surprised by the delay of Season 2 until 2025. The first season was a masterpiece, and I can understand why the creators want to take their time to ensure that the second season is just as good, if not better. I am confident that the wait will be worth it, and I am excited to see how the story of Joel and Ellie continues.

I am also intrigued by the potential introduction of new characters from the show into The Last of Us Part II Remastered. I think it would be a great way to expand the universe of the game and give fans a new perspective on the story. I am looking forward to seeing what the creators have in store for us, and I am confident that they will deliver another amazing season of The Last of Us.
