Bill Hader, the showrunner and lead actor of HBO's dark comedy Barry, recently shared an interesting conversation he had with legendary comic Larry David. As Hader prepares to wrap up the show's third season this Sunday, David urged him to consider ending the series on a high note. During their chat, David asked Hader if the finale of Barry season 3 was indeed the show's ending, to which Hader replied in the negative. David then questioned the decision, suggesting that the Barry season 3 finale was a perfect fit for the show's tone and would serve as a fitting conclusion.
Season 3 of Barry concluded with the main character, Barry Berkman, being caught in a sting operation while attempting to murder Jim Moss. This came after a series of crimes committed by Barry, including the killing of his friend Chris after Chris threatened to go to the police, the murder of Janice Moss who was getting closer to discovering the truth about him, the massacre of a monastery in an attempt to kill his former handler Fuches, and the killing of other individuals throughout the season. While some of those individuals were attempting to take Barry's life, it was ultimately his own demons that caught up with him. Despite this, series creator Bill Hader saw potential for more storylines and opted to continue the show, even when Larry David questioned why it should continue after the events of Season 3.
The anticipation of seeing Barry finally getting caught was what fans had been waiting for since the beginning, but the story didn't end there. NoHo Hank's drug empire had fallen and Sally Reed suffered from PTSD after killing a biker who had tried to kill her. To make matters worse, she lost her entire career in Hollywood. Barry season 3 took a dark turn, and loose ends needed to be tied up. Thankfully, the show's fourth season has not disappointed, with unexpected twists and turns.
Now, Barry must resort back to the man he once resented to protect those closest to him. Fuches eagerly awaits a reunion with his former criminal associate, while NoHo Hank is doing everything in his power to ensure his safety. Gene Cousineau may also face legal trouble due to misunderstandings. The culmination of all these events promises to make for an epic Barry series finale.
The Barry series finale will air on HBO at 9 pm ET and stream on HBO Max.
