Bungie is trying to regain trust after the mixed reception of Destiny 2's Lightfall, addressing issues and promising positive changes.
To fully experience the conclusion of the Light and Darkness story without any delays or spoilers, it is advisable to pre-order The Final Shape.
By pre-ordering, players will have the opportunity to face a challenging Raid and obtain an Exotic weapon called Tessellation. This weapon possesses distinctive abilities specifically designed for pre-ordering players.
Destiny 2's Lightfall initially received mixed reviews, but as more players completed the campaign and explored the neon city of Neomuna, the overall sentiment turned negative. There were several reasons for Lightfall's failure, starting with the high expectations set by Bungie's "Our end begins" tagline. Additionally, the campaign focused heavily on Strand with little explanation of the core conflicts between Light and Darkness. Given these shortcomings, The Final Shape has a lot to prove, but there are compelling reasons to consider pre-ordering the upcoming expansion now.
Community morale has been low since Lightfall, but Bungie is working hard to instill trust in players and assure them that positive changes are on the horizon. One way they are doing this is by addressing player concerns in a recent State of the Game post during Season of the Deep. For example, issues with consistently delivering ritual armor sets were acknowledged and Game Director Joe Blackburn took to social media to share new details about Season of the Witch and future plans. As a gesture of goodwill, Bungie also made an Eververse paid armor set available for free through ritual activities, making up for the previous lack of communication.
Why Destiny 2 Players Should Consider Pre-Ordering The Final Shape
Pre-ordering the expansion of Destiny 2, The Final Shape, and playing it upon its release is highly recommended. After a decade of storytelling, this marks the end of the Light and Darkness saga, making it a crucial moment for players to not miss out on. The Final Shape offers a self-contained environment, encompassing the full story with its campaign, Raid, and final mission, without any additional requirements.
Following The Final Shape, Destiny 2 will introduce Episodes, departing from its traditional seasonal model. Despite this change, players can still anticipate ample content in between major releases. It's important to note that these Episodes are separate from the conclusion of The Final Shape and the Light and Darkness saga. By pre-ordering the expansion, players ensure they can be among the first to experience the climactic finale of the main story without encountering delays or spoilers.
The Final Shape will have its own Raid, which is expected to have a significant impact on the storytelling and be of high quality. Bungie increased the difficulty of the Raid based on the criticism of Root of Nightmares being too easy compared to past releases, using Crota's End as the benchmark. With the acclaim of Crota's End, it is likely that the final Raid of this saga will excel in various aspects, making it a launch that players will want to experience personally.
Additionally, players who pre-order The Final Shape will receive the Exotic weapon Tessellation. This fusion rifle not only deals damage corresponding to the subclass being used, but it also allows players to consume their grenade to shoot a powerful, slow-moving projectile at targets. Furthermore, every final blow with the weapon refills grenade energy. Post-launch purchases of The Final Shape will also grant Tessellation, following the pattern of Quicksilver Storm from Lightfall. Destiny 2 is about to enter a new era, diverging from what players are accustomed to, with The Final Shape serving as its major milestone.
Destiny 2 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
