Doherty began dating the celebrity photographer in 2008, and nearly three years later Iswarienko proposed. It was exclusively confirmed in October 2011 that Doherty and Iswarienko got married. Four years later, Iswarienko supported Doherty when she was diagnosed with breast cancer, and again in 2020 when the cancer returned. However, in April 2023, Doherty filed for divorce, alleging that Iswarienko had been unfaithful.

Shannen Doherty often expressed gratitude for her estranged husband Kurt Iswarienko's unwavering support before they split in 2023.

Shannen did not want a divorce, but she felt like she had no other choice," stated Doherty’s representative, Lesley Sloane, on April 21. Sloane also claimed that Iswarienko’s agent played a significant role in their separation.
Iswarienko has not publicly addressed the claims, but court documents obtained by Us revealed that the couple separated in January due to irreconcilable differences. Doherty has requested spousal support from Iswarienko and also asked the court to deny any spousal support requests from her estranged husband.

December 2023
In the inaugural episode of her podcast "Let's Be Clear With Shannen Doherty," the actress recounted her discovery that Iswarienko had reportedly been unfaithful to her just before she underwent brain surgery.
"I entered the surgery early in the morning, just after discovering that my marriage was essentially over, my husband had been having an affair for two years," she stated. "Even though he wanted to be there, I couldn't have him in the surgery with me. I felt so betrayed."
After recovering from the surgery, Doherty admitted that she has become "fixated" on uncovering the truth about her estranged husband's affair. "After sharing 14 years together, if you cheat, doesn't the other person deserve to know the absolute truth no matter how much it hurts?" she asked, adding that she also spoke to the woman her husband had been cheating with for two years.
She expressed feeling "horrified" that her marriage had ended after having been previously married to Ashley Hamilton from 1993 to 1994 and Rick Salomon from 2002 to 2003. Doherty clarified, "I do not solely take responsibility for the end of our marriage, but I do acknowledge my role in some of the challenges we faced. I also recognize that my battle with cancer had a significant impact on our relationship, as well as on him the second time around."
