One Piece quickly became the top global title on Netflix, proving the success of its first-ever live-action adaptation of Eiichiro Oda's popular manga. As the longest-running manga in history, it remains uncertain if the series will be able to fully encompass Oda's story, but the confirmation of a second season indicates a dedication to try. The executive producers and showrunners, Matt Owens and Steven Maeda, have brought the live-action adaptation to life.
Adapting One Piece was an immense undertaking for everyone involved, particularly evident in the music department. The soundtrack itself spans an impressive four hours. When asked about its length, One Piece co-composer Sonya Belousova shared an interesting anecdote during an interview with Screen Rant that relates back to her successful work on The Witcher.
Why One Piece Chose The Perfect Composers In Sonya Belousova & Giona Ostinelli
: During our work on The Witcher, we composed a captivating piece of music titled "The Song of the White Wolf" which is featured in two different versions. Initially, it includes a sublime solo violin performance towards the end of the episode, and later on, it is accompanied by the remarkable vocals of Declan de Barra in the end credits. However, it appears that we unintentionally failed to include the solo violin version, despite receiving continuous feedback from our passionate fans who deserve to experience every aspect of this enchanting melody. Hence, we wholeheartedly apologize for this oversight and assure you that we value your opinions and appreciate your support. Rest assured, we are committed to providing the most immersive and comprehensive experience for our audience, even if it means extending the duration of the production to a remarkable four hours.Belousova jokingly explains that the mammoth soundtrack of One Piece is actually just a fraction of what she and co-composer Giona Ostinelli composed for the show. However, it's the sheer intentionality behind the score that proves Belousova and Ostinelli were the perfect choice to compose for the series. In an interview with Screen Rant, Ostinelli and Belousova revealed how they secured the job by presenting a passionate pitch video. This video detailed their vision of assigning each character their own signature instrument and theme, as well as the idea of combining multiple themes to create even more musical moments.
One Piece is renowned for its captivating and intricately crafted characters, with music composed by Belousova and Ostinelli, tailored to reflect the distinctive personality of each character. They even went so far as to assign specific instruments to Roronoa Zoro's three swords. What sets their music apart is the unconventional choice of instruments and genres from various parts of the world, creating a truly unique and immersive world for One Piece. Regarding their plans for the confirmed second season of One Piece, Belousova simply teased, "Ideas are brewing."
