One Piece has been delivering exceptional chapters one after another, impressing fans with its recent success. As the story enters its Final Saga, there are numerous significant plotlines that Oda needs to address. Throughout this saga, Oda has explored various parts of the One Piece world and delved into the stories of every major faction in the series.
Fans have had the opportunity to witness the Revolutionary Army's activities, especially through Sabo's involvement. Simultaneously, they have also gained insights into the conflicts between the Worst Generation and other powerful figures such as the Yonko. Additionally, the highest echelons of the World Government have been revealed, while the Marines engage in warfare against Blackbeard. With such a plethora of storylines, Oda has had to sacrifice some focus on the beloved Straw Hat crew to do justice to all these developments. Consequently, fans eagerly awaited the return of the Straw Hat Pirates, and their patience has finally been rewarded with the release of One Piece chapter 1089.
The Last Time Fans Saw The Straw Hats
The Straw Hat Pirates journeyed to Egghead Island following their time in Wano Country. Upon arrival, they noticed large mechanical structures in the sea, indicating the presence of Vegapunk on the island. This was an exciting revelation for One Piece fans who had been eagerly awaiting the introduction of Dr. Vegapunk. However, the island itself proved to be a challenging place for the Straw Hat Pirates, as they had to face numerous troubles that had been brewing prior to their arrival.
One particular challenge they faced was becoming entangled in a plot to assassinate Vegapunk. In their efforts to protect him, the Straw Hats found themselves in a confrontation with CP0 and the Seraphims, who were under the control of one of Vegapunk's betraying allies. Battling against these formidable opponents was no easy feat, but Luffy and the crew, true to their status as a newly elected Yonko group, rose to the occasion and not only survived but also took control of the situation.
The Time Away From The Straw Hats
After the revelation of traitor Vegapunk's identity, Oda made the decision to shift away from Egghead Island and explore other events taking place in the world of One Piece. Fans were treated to exciting battles involving Kid and Law facing off against powerful Emperors Shanks and Blackbeard respectively, giving fans a glimpse of their formidable abilities. Oda then provided a thorough flashback of the Reverie through Sabo, who found his way back to the Kamabakka Kingdom, revealing all that transpired during the Reverie and introducing the Five Elders and their extraordinary powers. In addition, Oda delved into the intriguing lore surrounding Imu, the sovereign of the world, and their connection to Lily, much to the delight of fans. Lastly, Oda turned his attention to the events unfolding on Pirate Island, where the legendary figure Garp launched an attack to rescue his protégé Koby and eliminate the Blackbeard Pirates. Though Garp achieved part of his mission, he made the ultimate sacrifice by staying behind to enable their escape.
The Return Of The Straw Hat Pirates
The chapters in which Oda diverted his attention from the Straw Hat Pirates clearly indicated that the story was reaching its climax. Oda aimed to depict a more chaotic world and a tumultuous era.
Regrettably, this came at the cost of the Straw Hat Pirates. While fans greatly appreciate this direction, they also deeply long for the presence of the group. Fortunately, One Piece chapter 1089 resolved this issue by returning to Egghead Island.
The first half of the chapter focused on global events, such as a significant rise in sea level by one meter. However, the story soon shifted back to Egghead Island where fans witnessed the marines preparing to besiege Future Island. Approximately 100 ships, including 20 warships, with 9 Vice Admirals and Admiral Kizaru, were stationed outside Egghead. Additionally, one of the Five Elders, Saint Jaygarcia Saturn, was present aboard one of the ships, indicating that the Egghead Incident was imminent.
From the perspective inside Egghead Island, the situation appeared quite different. Fans learned about these events through a Den Den Mushi call made by York, who explained the ongoing happenings on the island. In a surprising twist, it was revealed at the end of York's message that the Straw Hat Pirates were alive, well, and in control of the entire situation on the island.
The Straw Hat Pirates, last seen facing the formidable Seraphims and contending with Vegapunk simultaneously, have now overcome these challenges. Now, in front of the fans, it becomes evident that all obstacles have been overcome. The Seraphims no longer pose a threat, and likewise, York has been apprehended successfully. The rescue mission of Dr. Vegapunk has proven successful, and preparations are underway to depart Egghead.
The Straw Hat Pirates have become aware that the Marines, with their fleet of 100 ships, are stationed at the gates. They are fully aware of the formidable challenge they face. Despite their intention to elude the Navy's grasp, it is highly likely that they will be forced into combat. Fans were ecstatic to witness the return of the Straw Hat Pirates after a hiatus of nearly 4 months. The ongoing Egghead Arc will shed light on the Straw Hat Pirates and the highly anticipated Egghead Incident, which creator Oda has hinted as a world-shaking event. While fans are excited and anxious, they are primarily relieved that the Straw Hats have finally made their comeback. One Piece can be read on MangaPlus.
