Players in Baldur's Gate 3 will encounter a familiar face that has been the source of nightmares for many gamers. Reunions between good and evil characters usually lead to intense dialogue and conflict, but the encounter with the Mind Flayer is somewhat less explosive yet still very memorable.
This particular mind flayer has a past with most of the party in Baldur's Gate 3, and it is understandable that a character of any alignment may wish to put an end to it here. However, there is also an opportunity to show mercy towards the dying Mind Flayer and offer it sustenance.

Putting an end to the Mind Flayer's tyranny
Upon resisting the Mind Flayer, players can opt to either swiftly eliminate it or allow it to perish gradually. Though seemingly vengeful, sparing this specific Mind Flayer offers no chance of redemption; its evil nature remains unchanged if granted survival.
Feeding The Dying Mind Flayer
Recall the unfortunate Cultists who met their demise aboard the Nautiloid. Regrettably, their lives could not be salvaged, and should the Mind Flayer be aided, there will undoubtedly be an influx of such unfortunate souls. The Mind Flayer's intention behind these feedings is not rooted in compassion, but rather a desire to assert its dominance over a submissive being.

Feeding the Mind Flayer while playing with friends can lead to dire consequences as it instantly eliminates the character and initiates a battle.
The character cannot be aided by players to revive; instead, they must be brought back to life by Withers at the base (provided they have correctly answered Withers' question). Following their demise, the remaining three characters will have to locate and engage in combat with the revived Mind Flayer.
