As a long-time fan of The Crown, I was highly anticipating the release of Season 6, Part 1. The conclusion of this latest installment left me with a mix of emotions and thoughts. On the one hand, I was deeply moved by the portrayal of Princess Diana's tragic demise and its aftermath. The episode titled "Aftermath" did an excellent job of capturing the overwhelming grief and shock that engulfed the royal family and the nation as a whole. The depiction of the car crash itself was tastefully done, focusing on the emotional impact rather than the graphic details.
The scene between Prince Charles and Queen Elizabeth, where Charles urges his mother to show empathy and affection to the grieving public, was particularly powerful. It highlighted the tension between the royal family's traditional reserve and the need to connect with the emotions of the people. I felt that this scene effectively conveyed the dilemma faced by the monarchy in the wake of Diana's death.
On the other hand, I had mixed feelings about the introduction of Diana's ghost in the final moments of the episode. While I appreciate the creative license taken by the show's creators, I found the use of a ghostly apparition to confront the queen somewhat heavy-handed and unnecessary.
