Taylor Swift is known for her cryptic lyrics, but she can also be quite straightforward at times.

In her 11th album, The Tortured Poets Department, the 34-year-old singer delved into her love life, mentioning past flames like Joe Alwyn and Matty Healy. She even hinted at her current boyfriend, Travis Kelce. In the song "Fresh Out the Slammer," Swift appears to talk about reconnecting with Healy, 35, after breaking up with Alwyn, 33.

She sings, "Now, pretty baby / I’m runnin’ back home to you." Her next line is, "Fresh out the slammer / I know who my first call will be to."

In April 2023, it was confirmed that Swift and Alwyn had ended their relationship. A source revealed that Swift's fame played a role in the breakup. In the song "Fresh Out the Slammer," Swift hints at feeling stuck in her relationship with Alwyn.

She sings about gray and blue, fights and tunnels, feeling trapped by a spell for just a moment of happiness. Using shades of blue to symbolize Alwyn, she reflects on years of struggles and confinement under his influence. Despite the hardships, she remains hopeful, believing that everything will be alright as she served her time.

When Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn started their relationship, she was keeping a low profile after her public feud with Kim Kardashian and Kanye West. The singer and the actor were very secretive about their love story, as Swift mentioned in her December 2023 TIME Person of the Year interview.

"I've learned that it's not worth getting worked up over things that don't really matter. Life is short, so it's important to have adventures," she said. "I used to isolate myself at home for years, but I realized I can't get that time back. I'm more open and trusting now compared to six years ago."

Meanwhile, Swift and Healy reignited their romance in May 2023, after first being linked in 2014. Prior to that, their paths had crossed when Healy mentioned in 2022 that his band, The 1975, had collaborated with Swift on an unreleased Midnights track. Then, in January 2023, Swift surprised fans by joining The 1975 on stage in London to perform her song "Anti-Hero" for the first time.

In the opening verse of “Fresh Out the Slammer,” Swift suggests that she is experiencing difficulties in her relationship with Alwyn. She sings, “Another summer, takin’ cover, rolling thunder / He don’t understand me.” This could be a reference to the summer of 2022 or even earlier. (Swift recently mentioned that she has been writing a lot of emotional poetry over the past 2 years.)

Swift's lyrics also suggest that her relationship with Alwyn was troubled for a while, as she mentions a split that happened in winter. Producer Jack Antonoff, known for his work with The 1975, has shared that the breakup song "You're Losing Me" was written in December 2021.

Some fans have speculated that Healy is the person Swift refers to as her "home" after getting out of a tough situation. This theory is supported by hints in the song's bridge, where Swift talks about being called "the girl of his American dreams." This line is reminiscent of The 1975's track "She's American" from 2016, which many believe was inspired by either Swift or Healy's ex Halsey.

After TTPD was released, a source shared with Us that Healy is thrilled with the record. The insider mentioned that Healy still holds Taylor in high regard, but there were concerns about what she might have included in the album. It was also mentioned that Healy was grateful for the heads-up from Swift's team before the songs were released.
